as a former employee of the smartstyles salon,i would just like to let the public know that at this perticular location, the company is not being sensitive to the needs of the various members of the community.
the worst part of all is that there is a woman that is the salon manager that is totally racist, and yet she is still employed there. there have been many complaints made about her treatment of both the customers potential customers and her co-workers
after i finally realized that the company management overseeing salon operations was not going to do anything (such as fire her,or at least send her to mandatory diversity training or something like that i quit.
i believe i was the first african-american womman working at this location, and it clearly must have bothered the manager after awhile.she would always say that she could service the various diverse clientele that came ,yet she never, never, did any services on an african-american person when they came there. she would send them to me as if my only perpose there was to take care of the minority people. she also was very rude to the hispanic people that came for services. some times if they didn't speak or understand english that well they would have another person to interpret for them then she would complain out loud how there shouldn't be 20 people in there (exaggerating the numbers)just for one or two to get a hair cut. she would also get angry if they didn't understand her and tell them to learn english or got to one of their own salons.
several times she told people to leave the shopping carts outside of the salon, for safety reasons, but only if the person was a non-white individual.all of the white customers that wanted to bring in their carts weren't told to leave them out. when i mentioned the inconsistancy of the rules ,she told me to just mind my own business, because she was the salon manager.
i feel that any business that has to deal with the public has not right to have someone with rude and racist actions representing them, unless that is the companys' standard method of doing business.and if it is ,that company should not even be in business at all.
i was scolded for not charging higher prices to african-american clients for services even though the prices are supposed to be tha same for everyone regardless of race.
anytime i hear someone mention going there i tell them to call the toll free number in minneapolis and complain but they usually just say, i will never go to their salons again if that's the way they treat people.
