Do NOT sign up for this company's service.
I recently attempted to cancel my Smartfax service, and I am still furious about their "policy" and the treatment I received.
First, I contacted them online and was told to download the cancellation form from the website. While online with the representative, I looked for the cancellation form, which is not on the website. After saying so, the representative gave me a link to the form.
After filling out the form (while still online with the representative), I needed to send it in to the company. The rep said to send it to the location on the form. There was no location on the form. After saying so, the rep gave me a fax number (1-866-668-6467).
After getting offline with the rep and going to fax the form to the number provided, I got an unavailable message. I called Smartfax and was told the number WAS working. After arguing about it for several minutes, the rep on the other line said, "I'll show you." He called the number on speaker phone and got the same message I received.
He then told me it is their policy to receive cancellation via fax, and I should call back in an hour at which time the problem would be fixed. I did, and it wasn't. I called a new rep, mentioned lack of ethics and breaking laws for preventing any way for cancellation of services. Then, I was given an email address to email the form into.
I emailed it, and now, I am locked out of my account. Normally, I would consider this a good sign, but multiple people have said the company does this and continues to charge your account.
