Being a professional Cosmetologist I was asked to an interview at Smartstyle Beauty salon and was told the place couldn't afford regular wages yet because they were in trouble. The supervisor didn't state what was going on but was looking for a manager. She felt I wasn't ready and started me as a beautician with a wage of $7.55 hr or commission of 40%. I signed the paper stating it. Then I get my check and I'm getting $7.25 hr. or 38% commission.
This is the lowest wage I have ever had in the beauty business where I have worked as a beautician for 19 years. I was teaching other stylists some of what I had learned from my experience and showed them how to create a better clientelle. Don't just find out what hair style they want, and sell products to them. If they start a conversation go with it and make a friend. Just don't leave the building with them. When I got there, stylists were telling their patrons that they couldn't talk about personal matters with clients. Just products and hair.
The supervisor ended up adding days that I was late, and added days that I had called in, and ended up firing me because I complained i wasn't making enough money because I had to drive 20 miles to get there one way. It was taking too much gas, and she also lied and said I ruined someones hair, and I did not. They stole money from me I feel.

I would also like to report that my supervisor told me that she was prejudice of my nationality, because I am polish, and told me I looked like I had african american in me. For one, it is non of her business if I do or don't, and two I don't. I have polish, scotch, american Indian, and possibly mexican nationality. I am not sure. But what does this have anything to do with my profession? Employers are not suppose to be discriminating of their employees. I want a lawyer.... She said a lady came in that had a perm done and I forgot the activator. This is no reason to fire me. I corrected my steps and only left the perm on her hair for 10 minutes before I discovered it and rinsed her hair and then I put the new solution in her hair for another 10 minutes and it came out perfect. My supervisor told me she came back into the salon saying that her hair was terrible and that it was hard and sticky. I told her I put mouse and hairspray in her hair to set her style, and she probably hadn't washed it yet. I was told her hair was better now that she had washed her hair and conditioned it like I told her to. I also suggested for her to put a leave in conditioner in her hair after washing and conditioning because she wanted her hair colored in another two weeks and this will get her hair ready for her next chemical service. So Sara can file this with Regis. Sar get another job and stop picking on the hair stylists.
