South University has charged me over $80,000 in tuition fees, for online courses, some of which I have not yet taken. I've attended South University since 2009, they keep blocking me from taking courses that have already been paid for by the federal government. They claim that did not receive any money from financial aid, however after reviewing my student account, they have received over $67,000 in tuition payment, and now they are saying I can not take anymore classes because I owe the school $14,000. Every 2-3 months the financial counselors and academic advisors change, and they never document previous conversations accurately. I was told by the current financial counselor that she and her manager was working straighten out my account, however I have left 3 or more phone messages and sent emails and have yet to get a response. When I asked for the her supervisors email address, she refused to give it to me. She stated on he will give you a call by end of the day, however that was two days ago and I have yet to get a return call. I looked at my account and they have charged me double for classes that I have not attended and they have digital registration fees adding up to be anywhere from $70 - $212 over and over again. No one can tell me what's going on with my account. I was taking a class that was 11 weeks long, after completing 8 weeks of class they withdraw stating I didn't login to class for two days, I explain to them that I had some family matters to take care of and I had notified the instructor, but they completely looked over it. South University is a complete scam and I wish I had known this 3 years ago, I have wasted so much time with this school. I feel victimized by the educational system, how could the government let such things go on continuously. This unfair to students trying to get an education and find a job at the same time. These people are obviously pocketing student loan monies.

I also have been dealing with unprofessional behavior from the South University Online Program. I was suppose to graduate on 4/18/2013 but with the new academic counselor I have additional classes that are extended a year out. The financial department has processed the next six classes and have collected money from the loans and grants. They are now asking me to pay for the account balance which is for classes a year out. I find it insulting that I have an email from one advisor of my gameplan with the intension of graduating April 2013, now I have another new advisor who is unaware of the plan and has decided to extend a year. After reviewing the actual SUO Catalog requirements for the Bach in Art of Psych. I decided to look over my transcripts and compare, after reviewing this I have taken additional 4 classes that were not needed. I talked with the academic counselor about the comparison and he states that we work on "grid" which does not compare to their outlines. I ask why that is and he states the catalog may be wrong which now is false advertising and the previous academic advisor did not mention this when we discussed this. I feel that they are adding classes to get additional money.I also feel that this school is taking advantage of people by advising them of false information and collecting on unnecessary classes hoping that I wont catch on. I can not get a straight answer and the both the financial and academic area have staff turnovers on a frequent basis and I have been with the school sinc Jan 2010 with frequent mistakes and numerous questions that constantly is blown off.

Because of complaints like yours, the Department of Education is now getting involved. They have threatened to cut off the federal funding for schools that repeatedly defraud students. PLEASE contact someone at the state level department of higher education and file a complaint. Detail everything you can and be specific. You should also send a copy of the letter to your state representative, the university president, and the accrediting body that is responsible for them If you need help finding this information let me know.
