I paid $178.00 for the 10 Year leather Care & Protection Program from Stainsafe when I purchased a sofa and loveseat from Tepperman's Furniture in September 2000. On October 24, 2006, I made a claim for three broken legs which I found yesterday on the sofa and loveseat and some ballpoint pen ink my daughter made 10 days ago. My claim is denied and I was told they are accumulated claims. I double checked the warranty paper and there is nowhere to mention the accumulated claim. I made four calls and one of them was transfered to a supervisor. None of them can find the words about accumulation claim on the warranty document. They just ignored my question and put me on hold on the phone and then disconnected it.

Stainsafe is not safe for customers. It is only safe for their money. Beware Stainsafe!!!

Cut your losses and don't waste any more time with Stainsafe

AUTHOR: Jack - (U.S.A.)

Look fellas, Stainsafe does not replace or repair any damaged furniture. They have an excuse for all claims. I suggest you simply file a claim or send an letter to the attorney general's office in the state where the purchase was made. This company should be barred from doing ANY future business, however they continue on because the stores make money, Stainsafe makes a lot of money, and the consumer loses money because they simply wear them down. Look at the complaints! Do you see any that support them in paying any monies they owe for damaged product?

Following Up

AUTHOR: Noah Tepperman - (Canada)

Dear Jim:

I don't know if you've had a chance to contact anyone here at Tepperman's about your concerns since my last post.

If you haven't, please take the time to do so as it would be our pleasure to do whatever we can to assist you in resolving this issue. Since this website does not provide any specific information, I am unable to reach out to you directly via email or telephone.

Sincerely,

Noah Tepperman

From Tepperman's: Peter is Giving Good Advice

AUTHOR: Noah Tepperman - (Canada)

Jim,

Peter is giving very good advice, actually.

While it is difficult to comment without further information from Stainsafe, it would seem that all reporting needs for the ink stain have been met by you. As for the sofa legs, that issue is much less clear.

While Stainsafe administers their product Protection Plans directly and is fully responsible for these plans, Tepperman's (as your retailer) may be able to assist you with escalating your claim.

I would suggest you call our Customer Care line, toll free, at 1-866-966-5678. When you hear my voice, press "1" and you'll be connected directly to our Customer Care department. If possible, please have your Stainsafe claim number and Tepperman's invoice number handy.

I hope that we'll be able to assist you with this.

Sincerely,

Noah

So ask for a refund

AUTHOR: Peter - (U.S.A.)

Contact StainSafe and ask for a refund for the purchase price of your warranty, assuming that they have NEVER provided warranty service before under a different claim. If you've never used the warranty and they won't honor it, you should get a refund.

If StainSafe refuses, contact the store that sold you the warranty and ask THEM for a refund. If they sold you something that is "worthless," the onus is on them to make things right. Surely they value customer satisfaction a lot more than some warranty company that isn't even based in your local area, and will likely do more to ensure your happiness.

Different Warranty Policy

AUTHOR: Jim - (Canada)

Your warranty policy is not the same one as I have. At section 5 on my Ten-Year Leather Care & Protection Program (Warranty Registration No. LT 06283), it says "Report all warranty claims within 14 days of the staining which leads to the warranty claim".

Since those three broken legs are at the bottom of the sofa and loveseat, I couldn't see them unless I turn over the sofa and loveseat to check them. After ballpoint ink stains were made, I checked all around the sofa and loveseat so that I could report all defects at one claim for saving time. This should not be the reason to deny my claim.

When I purchased this warranty from Stainsafe, the rep told us it will be worry free. Actually, Stainsafe is giving us headache.

I have the same Stainsafe warranty

AUTHOR: Peter - (U.S.A.)

I have the same Stainsafe warranty, having purchased it only a few months ago. Looking at my paperwork, it is stated that one must report any stains, damage, etc. within 48 hours or else the warranty is invalidated.

You obviously waited "10 days" to report the ballpoint ink stains -- much longer than 48 hours. And reporting that problem along with the issue of three broken legs leads one to believe that these problems have existed for quite a while before you called Stainsafe.

Why is this important? Because the longer you wait to report a stain, a broken part, etc., the harder it is for Stainsafe to remove said stain, repair said part, etc. and ultimately results in their loss of money by having to replace your furniture. Such time limits for reporting damage have likely been implemented to provide quality service to the customer while protecting the company from unscrupulous individuals who try to use their warranty service as a means of obtaining brand new furniture at various intervals throughout the ten-year period.
