It is obvious that there are many customers who have been what I've been through with Stainsafe. Everything that has been stated about them is true. I only wish I would have found this website before I purchased the $500 warranty through Lazy-Boy.
Approximately 3 years ago, I purchased a leather recliner from Lazy-Boy and as stated, I purchased the Stainsafe warranty. I bought the recliner from a very reputable company so when they mentioned the warranty to me, I thought it sounded like a great idea. I was definitely wrong.
In 2003 I submitted a claim to Stainsafe. The recliner had a hole in the leather and needed repaired. Stainsafe sent a repairman out to my residence and fixed the problem. Approximately 4 months later, the same problem came back. I called Stainsafe and advised them of this problem. I was contacted by a Stainsafe representative who advised me that my chair would be replaced. Well, it is now 2005 and I still have the same recliner, with the same problem. I have called Stainsafe approximately 50-75 times regarding this problem. Stainsafe advised me that they could not located a Lazy-Boy retailer who would work with them.
I am a criminal Investigator here in the State of Alabama and on a normal basis, I arrest people who do this to consumers. This is called Theft by deception. It is considered a class B Felony here in the State of Alabama. I have been in contact with the police department in Palm Beach Gardens and the District Attorney's Office in Florida regarding this matter. FINALLY, I received a letter of release from the Stainsafe Warranty. I was advised by Stainsafe that I would be receiving $450 from them in order to have my warranty null and void. I have since, mailed the letter back to them which had to be notarized. It is a shame that this company is still in operation. If anyone is reading this and can get anything out of what I'm saying; DO NOT PURCHASE ANYTHING FROM STAINSAFE!!!

How to handle Stainsafe

I too have had my share of problems with Stainsafe. I have had to go thru alot, but I have managed to get furniture replaced when necessary. First when you call get the name of the person you are speaking with. ALWAYS tell the rep that the stain occured the same day or within 5 days. Never tell them more than 5 days they will deny the claim for failure to report in a timely manner. Second always give them the type of stain if you are unsure, guess (just don't let on you don't know). Third when they send someone to clean or look at your furniture always cover up other pieces that where purchased at the same time. For instance if you purchased a sofa and loveseat and only one cushion has a stain, cover up everything else but that cushion. When stainsafe sends a technician out they have a form they fill out. This form clearly asks for the condition of your furniture. If the technician says its in poor condition, dingy or a little dirty, then stainsafe will use that info to deny your claim. So only let the technician see what they are there for. Also before that tech leaves get a copy of the form, this is the form that stainsafe uses to determine if a claim will be denied. Know what is on this form and let Stainsafe know that you have a copy. This way they cant lie to you about the technicians report Last always let the store you purchased from know if you have a problem with Stainsafe. I know my store always gets involved and helps when Stainsafe tries to get over. When the store is involved it becomes about the store's account and not you. Stainsafe doesn't care about us, but they do care about losing large corporate accounts,so get the store involved. If a store threatens to pull the product because customers are unhappy they'll listen.
