I signed up for Stamps.Com after being directed to their website from USPS.com. I do not recall seeing the 15.99 per month cost when I signed up. Only after reviewing my checking account, did I notice a 15.99 debit last week.

I called to cancel the service and the representative told me that I was notified during sign-up of the cost and was sent an email that confirmed the cost. I recall no mention of the fee, or email. When I told him I wanted to cancel, he informed me that the recent bill was for may 23rd - June 23rd, and if I cancelled now, I would be billed for June 24th through July 23rd. That is $32.00.

The kicker is that you must pay for the postage on top of the monthly fee. You can purchase 39 first class stamps for the cost of one months service.

I looked up the email I received from stamps.com immediately after signing up, and no-where is the monthly fee mentioned. I then decided to re-register to see if the costs were clear when signing up, and the first place it is mentioned in the registration process is on the page asking for credit card information- off to the side in grayed out text. The ambiguous nature of the terms of service is putting the consumer at a disadvantage.

Unless you use gobs of postage and want to use the sites envelope print feature, stay away!

That's why it's so important...

AUTHOR: Nathan - (U.S.A.)

That's why it's so important to read the terms and conditions. You might not like their billing method, but it's a policy that they've clearly outlined. I also previously had a membership with stamps.com and you're right, the confirmation email does not state the $15.99 monthly fee. However it is loaded with links to their website where you can easily access their terms and conditions which clearly explain the monthly fee as well as the process of cancellation.
