Approximately four months later, I go into the store to shop. I watched an employee go past other customers targeting me as he saw me come through the door. I asked him if he asked the other customers he practically knocked down to get to me if they needed any help. He of course said he did not.
The store says they have no complaints from other African American shoppers regarding profiling or discrimination. But if they did, why would they tell me. Therefore, I have sent a complaint to the United States Department of Justice. If you have experienced unfair treatment at this store and you believe it's due to racial profiling or discrimination, please contact the United States Department of Justice and file a complaint.

I am an African American male, and have shopped at Staples for the last 7 years and my shopping experiences have always been very positive, the staff is courteous, knowledgeable and helpful as well. Let me tell you one of many great experiences with them.
Last month I decided to purchase a new monitor for my computer to replace my old one, and drove to Best Buy. I went in and found myself lost with so many different monitors to choose from (I'm not very tech-savvy). I looked around for help and none of the employees seemed to really care that I was there. They were more concerned with having a good time with each other. After 30 minutes I decided to leave. As I walked to my car, I remembered seeing monitors at Staples and drove there instead.
The first thing that really makes my day is the reception I get when I walk into the store, I am always greeted and asked if I need help with anything. I was directed to the aisle where the monitors where and had an employee send one of their Easytech associates to assist me in choosing the monitor that was right for me.
The associate helped me select the best monitor for my needs and even offered to carry it to the register for me, which I thought was very nice of him. Once at the register, the cashier rung up the monitor for $179.99. As I prepared to pay, the Easytech associate whom was still standing there told me that the price on the shelf was $149.99. It turns out that the price had not been updated. Aside from that, the cashier offered me a screen protection plan for my new monitor, and with the $30.00 I saved I went ahead and purchased it.
I don't mind employees approaching me to assist me even if I am African American, I more than welcome their assistance. Many places just don't offer the type of customer service that Staples does. You should be grateful for the help you received from them, in a world where dollar figures are more important than first class customer service.
