The brochures and information in the Staples stores regarding their "extended warranty" for purchases indicate coverage against normal wear and tear as well as mechanical and electrical failure, 100% parts and labor coverage and power surge coverage up to $1000.  Listed exclusions are "lost or consumable parts (knobs, remotes, cartridges, drums, etc.)  Nowhere in any of the literature is the battery classified as a consumable and when asked about battery coverage the Staples employee pointed to the 100% parts and labor line in the brochure saying its all covered.  Now that the battery has failed within the warranty period the warranty/insurance company is saying the battery is a consumable included in the "etc." section of the exclusion list.

The Staples employees are deliberately misleading the customers into thinking the plan covers everything including the battery to get the commission on the warranty sales by simply reciting the advertising in the brochure.  This is a major item to not be covered by such an expensive insurance policy.  And oh yeah a little thing they also forgot to mention when they sold me the warranty - you only get to file one claim.  Once you file a claim for anything against the policy - then the policy is voided.  That is not full three year coverage like the advertising indicates.  A similar policy purchased on three Circuit City computer purchases give specific battery coverage right on the receipt and the filing of a claim does not void future claims.  The Staples plan is a straight up underhanded bait and switch.

the part where you said you could only file one claim is WRONG WRONG WRONG!!!!!!

you can file UNLIMITED CLAIMS and have UNLIMITED REPAIRS... the part that is one claim is if you choose for us to completely replace the item. Then that fulfills the warranty.

READ THE FINE PRINT....

now for the associate telling you that it covers the battery.... that is Staples fault and I would turn to the store....

that is if they really did tell you that it covers the battery.... people have a tendency to "misremember" when they are frustrated...

just my 2 cents...
