How, exactly were they also "racists?"
I would bet you're black...right? And they wouldn't have denied the refund if you weren't....wow.
Good luck with your "Small claims court lawsuit"...you haven't a chance in H*LL of winning it.
YOU don't set their returns policy, they do, and they ARE following them.
Folow the link another rebuttal provided.

case in small claims court?

2. Staples' managers will readily process a return outside of the 14 day return policy so long as you have a receipt SO LONG as the item in question is still carried by Staples. If it isn't an item still carried on the shelves, then there's 2 problems: you are months or even years outside of the return policy date, and there's absolutely no way for the store to return the item since it won't even ring at the register. Was the flash drive you were attempting to return still an active item in the store?
3. Ripping off the survey from the receipt isn't a problem at all. And in fact, for many months now, the survey is printed at the TOP of the receipt, not the bottom as you suggested. If in fact the survey was at the bottom of the receipt, then you purchased this item a LONG time ago and are trying to pull one over on Staples, or perhaps this item is from another retail store altogether.
4. The only problem with ripping a receipt is that you may have actually ripped off the date and transaction number from the top and bottom of the receipt. If you have done that, and the store manager cannot locate your receipt in the system via the Rewards or Credit card purchase methods annotated above. You will run into issues here because of the following scenario: The item may have dropped in price since you purchased it. If you paid 20.99 for the item a month ago, it could be $7.99 in store now. I think it is HIGHLY likely that the cashier or store manager offered to process the return and offer you store credit since you had no valid (i.e. a damaged) receipt. Likely, you refused since you believe you paid more for the item weeks ago. There is NO way for a manager at staples to override this process, the cash register will process a No-Receipt Return at the current in-store price for any item.
5. It is highly unlikely the Office of the Store President "tore" the store manager a new one. I believe they likely did the right thing and took care of you by offering you some sort of customer service coupon which would be good as cash at any Staples store. There are not many companies out there who go so far out of their way to take care of the customer like Staples does each and every day. Yet, you still go on a site like this and trash the exact company which went out of its way to take care of you. Why don't you share with us what sort of correspondence you received from the Office of the President?
