PROVO -- Police arrested three people Wednesday for an alleged months-long string of burglaries at student apartments in Provo
Aaron Henry Laplant, 23, Vanessa Elizabeth Horst, 21, and Jared Michael Starkweather, 22, are suspected of stealing laptop
computers, flat-screen TVs, purses, wallets and other items from the Glenwood apartment complex. All three face second degree burglary charges, third degree theft charges and misdemeanor fraud charges. Horst also is being held on felony and misdemeanor charges related to drug possession. Police believe the three are behind numerous burglaries going back as far as January.
According a police affidavit the three suspects were apprehended by Brigham Young University police. Officers on Sunday had recorded an attempt to use a credit card stolen from one of the apartments. The credit card had been cancelled, the affidavit states, but surveillance video recorded Horst, Laplant and Starkweather entering and leaving the store. Surveillance video also reportedly recorded the suspects' vehicle.
BYU police later reportedly staked out the area where the burglaries were occurring. During the stakeout, officers allegedly
observed the vehicle from the surveillance video and arrested its three occupants, who reportedly were the three suspects.
According to the affidavit all three suspects made statements about their involvement in the burglaries. Bail was set at $7,500
each.
