I am a 67yo 100% disabled Vietnam Vet. I started to go to this store to read,drink coffee and use the outdorrs porch to smoke. My combat related disability is PTSD and probable Traumatic brain injury. I have periods of forgetfullness. This store has made that porch a no smoking enviornment and i most often comply. However in the course of conversation i might light a cigarette. Yesterday Aug 22 , i was banned from Starbucks and informed by boro police that i would be arrested for criminal tresspassing if found on that property.
The young man Shane who initiated this has broken that rule himself as an employee of Starbucks. And, I have observed other patrons pets actually defecating/urinating on that porch. He also has ignored young pretty women smoking on the porch. He never fails to humiliate me in public.around other patrons. I have been good to the employees there and actually over tip because i know that Starbucks treats employees poorly i.e. they are looking to start a union.

If part of the OPs condition is that he's going to forget past reminders, I should think the store could cut him some slack, as long as he always puts out the smoke when asked to and doesn't get attitudinous about it. Sounds like a typical eccentric neighborhood character that such businesses are bound to attract, and given his past, and what little we know of the situation from his post, they should cut him some slack and put up with him.

I respect that you served this country and thank you for your service.
But life isn't always fair. People don't always treat each other in fairness, it's just how things are. It sucks, trust me. I have illnesses that are highly stimatized. I know how it feels. I too suffer from memory issues from brain damage. But still I can recognize that things are not often going to go in my favor. And while I forget a lot of stuff, I don't forget where people can and can't smoke. At this point, it's probably best to find a new Starbucks and move on with life. It shouldn't be hard to find a new one either, they're more abundant than Twilight fangirls.

I expect he has been 'reminded' more than once, probably many times if they ended up calling the police. There may well be other transgressions that haven't been reported.

Let's cut this gent just a little slack. It sounds as if he genuinely just forgets sometimes that he is not allowed to smoke there. Would it hurt to just remind him when he forgets? Give him the chance to put his cigarette out, as I am sure he would be fine about doing. If the pretty young things are being allowed to smoke and he is not then guess what? That is unfair! The policy should be applied to everyone.

Other people not adhering to the rules is a completely separate issue. The fact is that YOU were smoking and there is probably quite a bit more to the story.
I was, in fact, in the Navy for 5 years, my Dad fought in the 'Battle of the Bulge' and my brother was in the Navy for 4 years. Never has it occurred to me that I wouldn't have to adhere to anyone's policies as a result of that. In fact, I certainly had to adhere to many policies in the service without whining about fairness.

First to Joseph. Where in any of the other posts did anyone say it was okay for pets to use the porch as a latrine, or to have people smoking if it was not allowed? If you actually read what was posted you would see that I told the OP to get proof of it and report it.
Back to the OP. You being banned had nothing to do with you being a Veteran, it had to do with you smoking. With your update I truly do believe that there is more to your story than you are saying. I would not be surprised if this entire incident didn't happen. I also would not be surprised that with your comments about labor that this didn't have something to do with unions.

I was not complaing about being caught! My concern was with the way in which it was handled. You seem to have some difficulty with reading comprehension. Being threatened with criminal tresspassing charges is ludicrous. Shylock could take his pound of flesh but not one drop of blood! Id suggest that you google Doylestowns Porch. All of what I reported can be seen all day everyday. If rules or laws are to be held to their letter it cannot be selectively........or do you have difficulty with the word fairness? Further, you might want to read more of the posts on this site that call attention to the business and labor practices of this organization. I think that my twenty-nine years of service to The USMC says something about my ability to adhere to rules.

You're an adult. You broke the rules. You got caught, and probably not for the first time since you complain that this young man (who is only trying to do his job, most likely) has "humiliated" you before. Regardless of your age/medical complaint/background/whatever, there is a NO SMOKING rule on that porch. That applies to YOU, too.
If you're that disabled you need to be somewhere where they can keep an eye on you. I hope you don't drive - heaven forbid if you have one of your "periods of forgetfulness" while behind the wheel. Grow up and quit whining.

While I do commend and thank you for your sacrifice and service, I don't see why being disabled has anything to do with this?
If your PTSD is so bad that you are claiming it causes you to "forget" that the patio area is non-smoking you need to seek some better professional help. At the very least you should never be alone. It would be bad if you are in a store and "forgot" that you need to pay for an item. It would be an outright tragedy if you forgot you lit a cigarette at home and put it in the trash.
I would not be surprised if you are using your PTSD "selectively" that is you are "forgetting" only certain items. There is obviously some history between the person who had you banned and yourself. We don't know all of the history but I would bet it is an interesting one. I would also bet that it is more of this history that got you banned than just the smoking.
But if everything else is as you say why would you want to go there anyways? As to what to do. I'd say get as close as you can on PUBLIC property so you don't violate the no trespass request. Get your video camera and video the pets defecating/urinating on the porch and send it to the county health department. If the no smoking regulation is a city ordinance do the same thing and send a video of people smoking to the city. If it is a Starbucks "rule" then send it off to Starbucks.
