I decided to check out insurance quotes to get a more competitive rate on auto insurance. The rate I got at State Farm was about $50 less than my previous company, Mercury, and the agent seemed more accessible, so I signed up with them. The agent also told me that the insurance would go down each year that I wasn't in accident. I prepaid for six months of the premium. About six weeks later, I was sent an additional bill which reflected an almost 50% rise in the rate, which was more than an additional $600 a year.

When I called the agent, he said the underwriting department had found a ticket from 2010, which I had told him about. It is obvious to me that he had purposely not entered it into his rate quoting software. These people quote rates all day long, and know how much insurance costs. I am quite certain that this salesman needed a commission and quoted a low rate to get it. The disparity in the cost is far too much to be anything but conscious deception. I have been driving over 35 years and have never had my policy go up one dollar after I signed up with a company, much less seen anything like this. It is a blatant deception and a rip off. I would be willing to bet that this salesman does this on a regular basis, and uses his the underwriting department to mask his dishonesty.

Commision

AUTHOR: StateFarmEmployeeAnonymous - ()

If this "sales person" was doing it for commission, he would have included your ticket because he would get a bigger commision if you had a higher premium. All applications immediately go to underwriting, so if your ticket wasn't showing to the underwriting team we aren't going to tell them because we are saving you money.

At your renewal our underwriting department saw your ticket and started rating you for it.
