I took him to the vet within 3 days of the purchase and was told that the condition is a genetic defect that could one day need surgery. That it is NOT his knees being under-developed. I also found out that this precious little guy has kennel cough and needed to be put on medication.
Two days later, I had to take him to the emergency vet office, because he all the sudden started crying and limping. He would not step down on his right from paw at all. They didn't find anything wrong with him that night and said that nothing was broke or fractured. He has been "babying" that leg ever since.
I decided to look up Steve Kruse online and to my surprise found these reports here against him.
I would love to find out more about how others have handled dealing with this breeder. As for the petstore, I am going to be filing a complaint with the BBB.

Search TipsPuppies are like babies and need certian cleanliness and other conditions of car. I do not advocate puppy mills. But, the realization is it is a business. And puppy stores will not buy puppies from anyone that doesn't have that type of certification for breeding puppies for sale. I know, because I have bred 2 types of dogs over the years. Now, my 1st from a store was an absolutely adorable peke (same time the movie Gremlins came out) and then later I got a male )(from an indivual) and bred them 2 times having a total of 9 pups. As she aged I found & fell in love with another peke (at a flea market from an individual) then got another male and they produced 7 litters totalling 48 pups. I lost only 2 in that whole time. Mine have had only minor health problems. Then we started with akitas both purchased from individuals.
My male akita had to have his hip cut out due to dispalcia. And now with my miniture akita (my shiba) Shibas in particular are a dog you should read about and know well before purchasing. Any breed should be studied and investigated as to whether or not it;s the type for you. And all dogs come with the risk of certain health problems. Some more genetically prone to certain things than others. I can't say that Steve Kruse is more or less responsible for my pups health than the store he was purchased from or the care I give him. I currently own 7 dogs and take good care of all of them, but it is work and not without vet bills occasionally.
