The company Sun Trust Van-Lines offered me a binding offer of $979.46 witched I signed on 03/12/2013 and paid the deposit and they then picked my household goods up from storage in College Park, GA on 03/19/2013 and charged me more money for the tape and other stuff so I had sent them more money as a total of $1,346 already paid to the and was supposed to take 7-9 days to deliver now they had added on extra money for I don't know what and is holding my household goods in their facility until I can pay them an extra $1,846.07.

Update on SunTrust Van Lines dispute

AUTHOR: didiilli - ()

POSTED: Thursday, August 08, 2013

Thanks to the Household Goods Enforcement and Compliance Commercial Enforcement and Investigations Divison at the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration they had forced Sun Trust Van Lines of Flordia to stick to the binding rate of the $979.46 their revised estimate of $2693.12 did not list accurately list in detail the additional goods or services. My combined bill of loading/order for service failed to be signed by both parties, contained no delivery date or spread of dates for delivery and no transporting vehicle ID. As a result of the revised estimate not containing the required information it was not valid and they had to stick to the original estimate. Therefore the company was directed to transport the shipment under the terms of the original binding estimate and return any overcharges. I was made to pay the 50% upfront before they would deliver my belonging so I had ended up giving the 1,346.56 so there was $367.10 I over charges that they had owed me and the remaing $1,346 that they was trying to charge me was voided and I didnt have to pay. They delivered my furniture on June 13th but they had antoher company deliver it and there was alot of damage to my things. So now I have filed a damage complaint against the for my 42" flat screen tv my washer and dryer and dressor I had a few broken dishes and glass but did not list them in the report I mainly care about the larger items to be replaced.

I am responding to the person who used this company in March '13, and this Sun Trust Van Lines held his household belongings "hostage" due to the additonal miscellaneous charges there were added to his initial contract.  I had the same thing happen, and they brokered by belongings to another company out of CA (L&D Storage), and this Sun Trust (just started operations in 3/13) did not even have the "Broker Authority" to legally give my possessions to anyone!!  The experience I had with this company, Sun Trust, has been traumatizing, to say the least.  But my Brother, who has been in the trucking industry for 46 years, knew immediately what to do.  He contacted the people at the Federal level in the transportation industry (he knows them all personally) in DC -- Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (had to file an initial complaint through them), and they got things rolling immediately with the AZ DOT people who responded immediately to me.  When this load finally came in by this L&D Storage (never heard of them before), there were 2 Fed DOT Weights & Measures Agents, as well as an AZ Highway Patrolman to meet this truck as it came in.  At least half of my belongings were either destroyed or badly damaged.  But I highly suggest you go onto the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and file a report immediately that your household goods are being held hostage by this company.  This is the 1st professisonal move I have ever done (always moved by U-Haul), and the trauma this has put me through is something like I could never have imagined.  The DOT is trying everything they can to get these "rogue carriers" shut down for good, and the more complaints they get against this company, the more the Feds have to use against them.  The scamming that is going on in this country in every area is unbelievable!!
