Approximately (7) seven months ago, my grandson who was 23 years old at the time, a full time student and was working part time was offered by his boss to let him take over the payments on her vehicle (a 2002 Ford Explorer). Her friend Barbara who works at Suntide Credit Union on Staples Street in Corpus Christi, Texas, offered to help finance his loan.
What my grandson's boss wanted was, unbeknownst to him, over the fair market value. Barbara, the branch manager, and Brian, his loan officer loaned my grandson the money for this vehicle willingly for exactly what his boss had asked for the vehicle. The amount loaned was well over the market value. He has paid on the vehicle for over (7) seven months, as well as paying for Full Coverage Insurance the entire time.
In August his vehicle was due for inspection and registration. The vehicle was taken and gotten the Inspection sticker. When he went to renew the license he was informed that the vehicle was not and had never been transferred into his name. He was further informed that it was still in his boss' name.
My husband and I spoke to Suntide Credit Union, with our grandson's permission and with him present. They stated that someone else did their title work and "they" must have "dropped the ball."
My grandson has never been happy with the vehicle and has spent a lot of money just keeping it running. He still owed more than the market value after (7) seven months of payments.
Brian and Barbara urged him to trade it in to some of the dealerships they work closely with and offered to give him credit for what he had paid towards the vehicle to date. The dealerships offered him less than what he owed (approximately $3,000 was offered). They also urged him to sign paperwork allowing them to put the vehicle into his name. They claimed he was to pay for the transfer but, had no paperwork stating such and had he was never sent notice of this claim or billed for the transfer.
He refused to do so and returned the vehicle to them the next day cleaned. detailed, along with the keys as to save them the towing fee, repossession fee and any additional fees they could and would have incurred had he not generously done so.
We are reporting what was done to him to every agency that was suggested to us by a legal representative. We have not hired a lawyer to date but, if he receives any grief over this matter we will definitely consider that option.
