Swipe Auctions is a very smooth scam that funnels the marks (those who buy into it) from professionally produced websites and videos directly to the site.

I got caught by clicking on an innocent penny auction "story" ad link when I logged into my MSN.com account. There on the bottom of my MSN page was this story about how a reporter heard about this new site 'swipeauctions.com' and how people were able to buy new items at ridiculous low prices.

I know, if it sounds too good to be true - it is. What makes this scam extra smooth is how much effort they have put into deceiving you right from the get-go appearing to be a legitimate news source 'Memphis Gazette' doing a story on how so many people are discovering how penny auctions are able to work for them.

Go to www.memphisgazette.com and read for yourself. Then click on the swipeauctions.com link and continue reading. You will be amazed at the deception involved here.

Why can't people like this just use their talents to do business the right way instead of ripping off? So much talent aimed at such a negative outcome.

Fun Facts!

  • By the time the auction ended (5 hours later than the first image at the top), the camera in the Swipe Bids auction pictured had had another 13,105 BIDS!!
  • At even 10 cents a bid (you can bid on bids and usually win them around this price), people still spent $1,305 on bids alone, and the guy who one had to buy the camera for $256 on top of whatever he spend on bidding.
  • Only 1 person won that camera auction, and only after spending several hundreds in bids
  • Several people lost this auction and threw their money down the drain and wasted several hours of their lives
  • There is no way to know if Swipe Bids extended the auction superficially on their side in order to make more money (is it a coincidence that it ended so abruptly so early (11:00pm), but right after they cleared over $100 in bids (AT LEAST) over the MSRP of the camera?)

So do you still want to try Swipe Bids? What are your thoughts?

UPDATE - Jennifer Fully Refunded my Fee

AUTHOR: Brian - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, September 30, 2010

As the filer of this report on Swipe Auctions I was very upset that some company had so easily taken my money.

I didn't file my original report easily. I know these reports can cause harm to any company and that is the purpose for any business that is trying to rip you off.

I only filed a report after doing online research and coming to the conclusion that applying for a refund would be a waste of time and effort due to the refund process.

Today I am whole again. They have stepped up to the plate and Jennifer has fully refunded my $159 to my bank account.

Thank you Jennifer - you were very responsive and professional.

NOTE: One thing that would really help all parties is to include a confirmation page right after the Register button, so we know we are being charged. I realize you claim that on the register page, but there is just so much information going on that I missed it until the moment I clicked the button - then it was too late. If there was a confirmation page, then those of us who didn't realize we were being charged, or like me realized it a moment too late, then this could all have been avoided.

All's well that ends well. I hope this rebuttal will help.

My name is Ronny G, I am a hard working American citizen.

I want to assure you that swipebids is a TOTAL game of chance (unless you have UNLIMITED funds and are willing to use UNLIMITED funds to GAMBLE with EVERY time..and I also assure you that the "house" (swipebids), is also against you..not just "another person".

Because in all logic..in order for swipebids to possibly turn a profit and survive as a business (yes they are a business despite the implications they claim they are a charity..lol)..could they do this selling Ipads for $18.72????????????????????????????

"My" thoughs, are this...

AUTHOR: Ronny g - (USA)

If anyone joins a penny auction site...they should be aware that this is a form of online gambling.

The difference between something like swipebids..vs. any legitimate auction site such as eBay..is that if you bid on an item with eBay, it does not cost you a DIME if you do not win the item.

However with a penny auction..every single person who bids...will pay something. The lure of winning an expensive camera, laptop, Ipod, Ipad etc for very cheap, simply appeals to the greed which is innate in most of us.

Bottom line is this...how much are you willing to "gamble" to win one of these items?

Sure, it sounds great in an ad that someone "won" an Ipad for $18.73...but think about the math for a second. Each "bid" can cost .20-.50 cents. The price is raised by a penny after each bid before the clock reaches zero. How long can this go on? I certainly do not know or I would be a millionaire off these penny auctions.

What I do know...is it is costing every bidder 50 cents or thereabouts to raise the price a penny..and add time to the clock.

Personally, I feel the concept is BRILLIANT, for the operator of the auction site. For the consumer..as long as it is apparent this is gambling...then I see nothing wrong with it per say. If a consumer was sucked in thinking they will get rich from this..or get very expensive items for pennies on the dollar every time...well then they unfortunately for them... will learn the hard way.
