SEO Reputation Management at its best!

Let me start by saying I might jump around on a few subjects. This topic REALLY makes me upset. I feel like my civil rights are violated by companies providing a service that we as Americans pay for. We support these CEO's, we give them nice lifestyles, but they get greedy and companies rip consumers off. Companies do not give consumers fair and equal rights.

Why is it that I have to pay $200 to cancel a service that I can not use in anouther country? The phone I bought from them broke after 3 months and because I opt-out of paying for the insurance I could not get a new one!

So instead I bought an unlocked phone from Hong Kong, China. It's better than any phone they offer here (Nokia E65 $250 USD). Now I am moving to India for work. I can't use my phone there, but they won't give me a break on the fee. I have been a customer for 1 year.

The problem is now all companies MAKE you sign a min of 2 years for the service. They say it pays for the cost of the phone (a load of crap). They dont even give you the option to waive the contract by paying CASH for the handset up front!

Also why is it that NO, I want to say this again ....NO.... other country makes you sign SERVICE CONTRACTS!!! When over here we have to resign a 2 year contract every 2 years to keep service! IT IS STUPID! THE CELL PHONE COMPANIES ARE BEING RUN LIKE DICTATORSHIPS! We have no choice! We have to sign long lengthy contracts to get a phone that very few lawyers can even take a case against if someone wanted to sue!

Now people say you have the option to get a pre paid phone. Again bad phones and very expensive rates! Also with pre paid you don't have the option to call Canada or international numbers. That is a hugh part of my business.

Something to think about: I pay $2 or more dollars a min to call my family back in India. My family pays equal to USD .17 CENTS a min to call me. Why such a difference when cell phones are more expensive and harder to own in other countries.

I think we as consumers should have a choice. While not all of us own cell phone companies or airlines we should have rights to service. We are in a country based on freedom. We are free to choose but we are slaves to big corporations.

I don't want to make a big fuss about the $200. I can pay that amount and i will have to. This is more about OUR rights. We are being trapped, and it's not only with cell phones. Airlines are becoming the same way, if your flight is grounded you may one day not have the choice to get off it (happed recently). I have a phone for London, New Dehli, and Vancouver BC along with my US phone. The only issue I have is with the US carrier.

Always have choices...

AUTHOR: Be - (U.S.A.)

Well, first off the bat, if you provide them proof that you are moving out of the country (such as some kind of bill with your international address or some other proof that you are moving/living outside of the U.S.) then they will waive that 200.00 early termination fee. Look in your Terms and Conditions (you should have read those by now) and you will find it; any rep you speak with over the phone should know this anyhow. Maybe it's simply a communication problem.

As for signing a contract, the minimum contract with T-Mobile is 1 year, not 2. You get a higher discount with 2, maybe you just didn't ask about the 1 year? Or maybe you activated at an authorized dealer (3rd party retailer) that does not offer 1 year contracts. Either way, nobody MADE you sign a contract. You made that choice; you could just as easily signed a contract with Cingular or Verizon, or you could have gone with a prepaid service.

As for prepaid not having the international calling you need, that's what landlines or calling cards are for. The international rates for all cell phone carriers are extremely high, so getting a cell for that option seems a little silly. With prepaid you can still use a calling card to make international calls, and you'd be saving yourself money using a calling card as well. As for the phones, with T-Mobile and Cingular, you have the option of buying a different phone, like the Nokia you purchased, to use with their service; so again, very poor excuse. And, maybe a better solution, I believe your Nokia E65 will support a VOIP provider, such as SKYPE, which makes international calling super cheap. That might be something to look into.

Also, I assure you the U.S. is not the only country with cellular contracts; check out the U.K., Germany, Ireland, Spain, Canada (they have 3 year contracts), etc, etc... The contracts are certainly there (in part) to subsidize the cost of the phones.

And lastly, customer's do have a choice, though I agree it's not much of one. It's getting to the point of, "Do I go to Company A for service or Company B." Those are the choices and you get to pick. However, you also have the right not to choose. If it's such a hassle, and if you're a slave to these corporations, you can choose not to be.
