I went to Phones Plus and filled out an application for phone service and was approved for 2 phones. I was told that it would be $49.99 per month for 1,000 minutes for myself and my husband to share in between both phones. I also added Sports updates for my husbands phone which was supposed to be $5.00 additional per month.

When I received my bill it was almost $300! I called the customer service and asked about the charges and was told that all the updates were charged as individual text messages. I let them know that I was told that all of the updates were supposed to be included in the monthly charge.

I was then told that for an additional $10 a month I could get unlimited text messages. I was furious because I was initially told that this was all included and now they wanted me to add more services that were supposed to be included. It is am total scam. Now they are in the process of taking me to collections and ruining my credit in the process.

This is the worst service ever and I would tell everyone to beware. This company is the of the most deceptive out there. My $49.99 monthly bill turned into $300 within a month and they are liars!

#1 UPDATE Employee

Blame the right people

AUTHOR: Jimbo831 - (U.S.A.)

Why do so many people blame T-Mobile, Cingular, Verizon, Sprint, or whoever because they are mislead or ripped off by a 3rd party dealer? If you really want to resolve these issues, you need to deal with the right people. It is not T-Mobile's responsibility to honor anything offered by an outside dealer who sells their equipment.

It sounds like you may have been mislead if even still a little naieve. However, your beef is with that store, not T-Mobile. Nobody from T-Mobile ever gave you any of that information and it is not their responsibility to credit you for services you used.

Take up your complaints with the right people if you want to have any chance of resolving your issue. I will say this for the future. Any time you get any service, be it cell phone, satellite TV or whatever, always deal directly with the company. Those stores are paid commission based on how many new customers they sign and some will be shady to get you to committ so they get their commission.

If you deal solely with the first party, you may pay a little more, but will be much happier with the service you receive.

#2 UPDATE EX-employee responds

You are barking up the wrong tree

AUTHOR: Nicole - (U.S.A.)

You are mad at T-Mobile for charging you for text messages....? They are only charging you for services that you used. You should be mad at the people in the store, not T-Mobile itself. You were not necessarily given wrong or bad information, just not ALL the information.

So....your first bill was $300.00? That included the $49.99 for the two lines of 1000 minutes each (including free nights and weekends, as well as Mobile 2 Mobile, I assume), an additional $5.00 for the sports updates, $35.00 PER LINE for the standard mobile company activation fees.....TOTAL=$124.99 plus the governments share.

At 10 cents per text message, that means that you two used approximately 1750 texts. You thought that was included?

Suggestion-Take a look at your contract. Does it say anything about free text messaging? NO.

Suggestion #2-Pay the bill. Is it really worth "ruining your credit" over? Not to mention that once it is in collections, you are being charged the $200.00 early termination fee for EACH line. Thats an additional $400.00....let me ask, what is worse?

Similar Problem same people

AUTHOR: John - (U.S.A.)

Same place in the mall told me I could upgrade my T-mobile phones. I upgraded from an old nokia to the new Razr phone. I asked several questions about the phones before agreeing to buy them. I was told I had to pay 150 dollars upfront but would get 50 dollars rebates for each phone.

I was also told that the phones held 2 gigabytes worth of space. I get them home and find out that there was only around 5 megabytes of space and that the phones did not support SD chips to expand the memory.

This was a big selling point to me so I took them back. They told me they didn't offer the phone with the expandable memory at their store but I could go to the main store and trade it there. So I drive 30 minutes across town to the main store. They tell me I have to take the phone back to the original store.

Another 30 minutes and traded in that phone. Then I drive another 30 minutes back to the main store to upgrade to the model I wanted with the expandable memory. Then they wanted to charge me 150 bux PER PHONE with NO REBATES at the main store. They told me the deal i got for the model I didn't want was a subcontractor deal and not a tmobile direct deal.

I called and complained and got nothing out of it but wasted time.

T-Mobile

AUTHOR: Jeremy - (U.S.A.)

T-Mobile is a fraud of a company and has alot of liars. My suggestion is file a formal complaint with the FCC on their fraudulent practices.

They have done it with everything, and they almost encourage fraud just so they can take in more people.

There is no shame in these corrupt companies.

AUTHOR: Nicole - (U.S.A.)

No offense, but it seems that your anger is directed to the wrong people. You should be angry with the store that misinformed you-NOT T-Mobile.
