Just recieved a call from Takhar agency saying that I owe 95.64 from an account back in December of 2005 and its now 2012 . I have never purchased anything from Columbia House as i Kept telling the foreign speaking gentleman. When I asked how he recieved my number, he told me he got it from Columbia House, I laughed at him and told him it was impossible. The address that they have me down for I didnt even live there in 2005 not until 2006 and 2007 I moved due to the Military. I do not purchase anything through clubs movies books etc. So the man tells me that it wasnt going to be on my report in the beginning of our conversation and then tells me it is already there later during our conversation. I checked my report it isnt on there and i am hoping it doesnt show up either because it is way too hard to fight with the credit reports to fix issues as they are not easily reached. I am hoping something gets done with this company because it is a bunch of BS to contact people about debt they dont have and if they did as 7 years ago it would have already been on my report there is no way Columbia House waited this long to try to collect. So now I am trying to get in contact with Columbia House to try to reslove this issue of supposed debt that I dont have.

Tell the company that you need validation of the debt. This is VERY important. If this company is going to collect a debt from you they need to send you something in writing, over the phone is not enough. Once you get a letter from them telling you that they are attempting to collect a debt, you need to write back to their address and demand a validation of the debt. Send it certified mail so you have proof it was sent and recieved. There are forms available on the internet on how to request a debt validation. If they do not validate your debt within 30 days of you sending them a letter they CANNOT collect on the debt nor place anything on your credit report. In this debt validation should be a contract that you signed if the debt is valid. Odds are they wont be able to produce these documents and will move on.
