Purchased a Rubber Maid storage unit of 34 piece bowls/lids from Target in Fort Worth, TX Carroll street location on 8/27/2011, this item was reg 19.99 and on sale for $15, was the only item left on the shelf and the box was dented. Manager at that store without opening the box, deducted 15% off sale price for condition of the "BOX" not the product inside. When got home discovered lids were missing, went to the Lake Worth store the following afternoon to try and do an even exchange, they told me to go get another of the same product, when located the items in the store they had approximately 5 boxes (all boxes were dent as bad or worse than the one I had already purchased)

so went back to customer service, they called a manager (later found out it was a Team Member) named Juana (or something similar to that) and she said she would refund my money but that I'd have to pay the full price for the new box. I asked why, I was just wanted to exchange 'Item for Item" she refused, she was quite rude and unfriendly. I asked her for her manager, she said she was the only manager in the store, so I asked for managers name and phone number and asked if she could write it down, she repeated the name Ramona 3 times before reluctantly writing the name down. I asked her why she could not just exchange the box and she said because she wasn't going too and I could take pay the difference or leave.

So then I asked her why she was being such a Jerk and asked her for the corporate phone number, she pointing to a comment card and said it's on there. I tried calling that number but just basically got the run around, my husband who was with me went back and got yet another box that was extremely dented and said can  you exchange it for this one, she said oh that box is too damaged I'll have to defect it, no one will buy it. I said then just exchange that one for me. She said no and left again and  returned with a security guard who stood behind her for intimidation purposes I guess. I asked her why she couldn't just exchange it and she just shrugged her shoulders and told me that she didn't have too.

Another associate said they had a box returned the same day that only had lids and no bowls, so she went and got that but we saw they were different lids and wouldn't work, so she would have exchanged those if it had been the same lid, but wouldn't exchange the box, so I asked if since she wasn't going to sell that box, could she open it and just give me the 7 lids that were missing from my original box. She started to do it and then just stopped and said no, that I'd have to pay for the box first. My husband began recording the conversation on his cell phone and at that point said now you are just being an A**hole and she told him he couldn't record her, he said I can record, I'm not pointing the camera at you "dummy" she got angry and told security to call police, told us to leave or she'd call police, I felt I was being harassed, discominated against and violated by her actions.

I felt she was accusing me of trying to get something that I hadn't paid for, that she was calling me a thief and a liar. While we were waiting a young couple came in (my husband and I are in our 50s) and had 3 bags of toys said they had no receipt and were just told they'd put it on a gift card for them and they could get what they want, the toys were in walmart bags! But we were being treating like criminals and low lifes and were crimanally trespassed from the property because we just wanted what we'd paid for, just an even exchange of one box to another, with the 14 lids in the box instead of the 7 that were in our box. It is insane!  I have called the store since and was told that there was nothing that they were going to do because Juana (the team member- not manager she said she was) was uncomfortable with us and that their policy was not to do exchange on defective items! WHAT???

This persons name was Princess. We have since gone to another Target on Alta Mere and spoke with a girl named Sandra, told her the situation with our box not having any lids and she just let us do a straight exchange. I'm very very very very disappointed in Target in Lake Worth, They didn't need to trespass me because believe me I will not go back into that store. I was honest, took in my receipt, showed them the product and just wanted an even exchange. It was that simple, their boxes were damaged as bad or if not worse then the one I had already purchased so should have been discounted as well so it should not have been an issue and it should not have gone as far as it went. I feel violated, insulted and angry.

Thank you.

Its rude its diabolical

AUTHOR: MLS582 - (United States of America)

POSTED: Saturday, September 10, 2011

It not good communication to use profanity, or name call, or be rude, its better to understand than to guess or misunderstand, It takes two people to agree and 2 people to disagree, if they act psychopathic, it might be better to leave or get help, because their beyond able to reason with, yet only certain people can reason with them.

For example: People need help and trust people to react to policies, to be a customer and ask for help, you would think there is nothing wrong asking for the opinion about how a dress looks, or shoes look. or giving cards would look good. Trust me, I know how they think, someone at target can do it, be kind, or rude. The STL. Store team Leader, threatened to call the police to force me out of the store for asking about an opinion, I was scared to go back he threatened me to and not come back.

After working their for over 10 years for target, its a fact, target can be rude, or presumed to be sometimes, if you think target is flawless, your mistaken, it can happen anywhere, at anytime, from anyone, their reason for this is their logic, for example, being ignored, snubbed, or acting psychopathic, everyone has their opinion  about what being  rude is.

They once used the term, fast, fun, and friendly, yet only being the target, some goal, because when people trusted it to be real, you took your chances if it was real,  if you watched their commercials you might see it over the years,  people  would  say  people are rude at Christmas, yet did they presume it, everyone has their opinion.

Its a fact, target can be rude, or presumed to be sometimes, if you think target is flawless, your mistaken, it can happen anywhere, at anytime, from anyone. People stop shopping there because of it, people stop working there because of it, yet credit should go to those people who truely care. Saints can exist anywhere, yet not everywhere.

Don't know what exactly constituted the worker being rude...

But I do know that your self admitted name calling in public aimed at her was definitely rudeness on your part. You were asking one person, her, to basically sign off on a special dented box manager discount that another person gave you. Maybe she wasn't as comfortable or secure in her position about taking responsibility for that. Maybe she had a regional higher up observing her, or expected she might be getting observed for training or as some standard thing.
Upon seeing that she was not of a mind to do such a special exchange you should have departed and either called Target corporate to get an okay for the exchange arranged, or did what you ended up doing, going to another location.
Y'all handled this very badly.

It happens

I worked for target over 10 years, a good thing to remember when you return something, it must be ethical, think of yourself being the one accepting the return, and your thinking, are they cheating you, or you cheating them, if you know you have not done wrong, try another store, remember they believe their the final word, do not argue with them or call them names. Make sure you know their policy, they stand by it, may change without notice.

Therefore with target's constant policy its good you got the return you asked for.

Like some people I rarely returned something. It was within policy, it was unopened and new condition, they could of sold it. I made the mistake of having  two when I really only needed one, made no difference that I worked there, they would of done more for a customer than me, yet if I had the receipt, less of a problem, therefore I saw its policy to not give exchange or gift cards. I have been to 5 or more  stores that will take my return for money or gift card, I have evidence, my card and phone number. Target policy no receipt no return.

They removed most of the sales team or quit not wanting to work 12 hour weeks, people stocking the shelves were to answer customer's question yet complained they were helping them and not working fast enough to finish and should think of a way to avoid answering questions. Therefore you can find some rude people there.

Incorrect

You may be "old school" but that is only because you don't know how customers can scam a store.  A store that says the customer is ALWAYS right is lying.

Here is a couple of examples.  A customer goes to a store, buys an item on sale for $10 off.  They go back to return it the next day without a receipt and say they paid FULL price for it.  Now if the customer is always right they just took the store for $10.  Here is another very common one.  A person goes into a store to buy a nice shirt for an evening out.  They wear it all night and there is nothing wrong with it.  They then try to return it the next day because it "didn't fit".   If the customer is always right then they have just turned a store into a rental agency.  This is the exact reason stores have return policies.

Now, of course a store should try to make a reasonable effort to satisfy the customer, and in this case it looks like they did not do that.  However, your reaction to it was just as "over the top" as their response.

One thing that is also interesting is your original statement.
Manager at that store without opening the box, deducted 15% off sale price for condition of the "BOX" not the product inside.
- It wasn't just for the box, it was for any POSSIBLE damage to the items inside.  If I could get 15% off where the only thing damaged is something I am just going to recycle anyways, I think I will try that the next time I am in the store.  By the way with several stores any type of discount like this turns it into a "final" sale.  That is NO exchanges or returns.

Target is geared to the young, so if you are over 40 don't expect them to treat you with anything but rudeness!
- And on the flip side if you are over 40 don't act like a 4 year old.

customer service

AUTHOR: Grayhairedblonde - (United States of America)

POSTED: Wednesday, September 07, 2011

I too have been in customer service for many years, I'm old school I guess and still believe the customer is always right theory. After all they are why companies are in business in the first place. I didn't go in acting like a jerk, I went in just for a simple exchange of on equal product for another, with a receipt in hand; that was only a day old. It never should have escalated as far as it did. There was no reason for this "team-member / acting manager" to not have just exchanged the product except she was acting snide and rude. This transaction should have taken all of 5 minutes as it did at the store we went too right after we left the Lake Worth, Texas Target. I guess I should have just went in without my receipt and lied and said it was given to me as a gift and just did an exchange that way, but I was honest and got treated like a criminal, while I saw others come in with 3 bags of toys, and state they had no receipt and were told to just go get what they wanted that it would be put on a gift card. Yes I should have controlled what I said better and not told her she was "acting" like a jerk. But she was and she caused the situation to escalate instead of treating a customer with respect. Target is geared to the young, so if you are over 40 don't expect them to treat you with anything but rudeness!

The OP probably won't care for your answer and will say you probably work there and blah, blah, blah.  I'll never understand that line of thinking.

Your behavior was worse

AUTHOR: Chris - (USA)

POSTED: Saturday, September 03, 2011

I'm not saying Target handled the situation perfectly, but that doesn't excuse the behavior by you and your husband.  I have been in customer service for 15 years and I would have tossed you and banned you and your husband from the store long before the employee did.

Just because a store doesn't do exactly what you want them to do is no way to behave like a spoiled child.  I'm not trying to insult you, but you should be absolutely ashamed of your behavior.
