On the evening of August 6th, I was on Facebook and came across an ad for Tea Francais. It was my understanding that I could order 2, 3 oz bags of tea, for $2, without any further commitment on my part. I decided to go ahead and order the two packages of tea.
On August 7th my checking account was charged $2 by Tea Francais for the tea. On 8/17/09 I became aware of a pending charge of $38.95 to my checking account by Tea Francais, I also became aware of two other unauthorized payments (On 8/10 and 8/13) that had also been made to Tea Francais in the amount of $38.95 each.
I contacted Tea Francais on 8/17/09 and was told that I had signed up for a tea membership. Since this was not my understanding I requested that the membership be immediately canceled and I requested a refund of both payments previously deducted from my account and of the pending payment I was not able to stop that day after speaking with a bank represenative from my bank.
In addition, I had received a package containing the two 3 oz packages of tea, I thought I was ordering, and two cups and a tea infuser that I did not expect to receive, approximately two to three days prior to my telephone call on 8/17. During my telephone call, I was told by a representative that they would cancel my membership and that a refund would be made within 14 to 30 business days. This did not happen.
I again called Tea Francais on 9/9/09 and was told, again, by a representative that I would be begin to receive my refunds, seperately withn the next 48 hours. This did not happen. I again called Tea Francais on 9/17/09 and spoke with a represenative named Demetrius, who placed me on hold for a good 5 to 10 minutes before transferring me to his supervisor, Lucy. She explained that they had had a computer glitch and that my refund(s) would now take an additional 4 to 5 business days to process.
Meanwhile, (between 9/9 and 9/17, I reported the trouble I was having to my bank and asked them to look into the matter. They advised me at the time to keep calling and checking with Tea Francais and to fill out a form with affidavit so that they could begin looking into the matter.
I again called Tea Francais on 10/5/09 and spoke with a representative named Nina, who transferred me to her supervisor, Lucy. Again, Lucy reassured me that my refund was on the way and that she would manually over-ride the system so that it would arrive in my account within three to four business days.
At this point, I explained that I was getting very tired of hearing the excuses and that it only took them a matter of a few days to deduct the money from my account and that it was taking almost two months to return it. I plan to call the company again, today. To date there has been no refund made.
