My experience with The Diamond Jewelry Company begins when my girlfriend found a ring she liked there when we were shopping for wedding rings.  I went here with my fiancé and talked to Royce about the ring he had and a similar
one I found in a catalog.  He showed me the diamonds size that the catalog ring called for, they were tiny and he felt the ring needed bigger diamonds. He told me he could order the catalog ring but it would be easier and cheaper to make it as his jeweler could make the ring without having to cast it.  He described in detail how they would go about making the ring.
He showed me a couple of diamonds to fit the ring, I liked one, but I wasn't settled on the diamond yet, he said it would be ready in three weeks, as here were a couple of large pieces of jewelry to be worked ahead of me, I put $1,000 deposit down on the ring.

A few days later, I had decided to go with a Morisonite, I e-mailed Royce and asked him what the costs were for the
diamond and the ring, he replied $750 for the ring and $1,500 for the diamond. I told him I would supply my own 1.5 ct Morrisonite rather than buy the diamond from him, he wasn’t happy about that.  I ordered the stone and
took it to him the 2nd week on Friday morning.  As it happened, Fed Ex had just made a drop off and Royce was opening the package and showed me the setting he had just taken from it and told me it was my ring, it was the same
mount that was in the catalog.  He said they still had to make some modifications on it like drilling out the holes on the band to put bigger diamonds in it, and change the mount for the stone in the center.  I gave him the stone and he said it would be ready in a week.

He called me Saturday morning on the 3rd week and said the ring was ready. When I went to the store to get it, I immediately noticed that it was not the ring I had ordered but the catalog ring, it looked nice but it was not the ring he had agreed to make.  The diamonds were the same small diamonds he had used to talk me into making the ring; he hadn't put larger diamonds in as
he said he would.  The band modifications involved filling in three holes on each side which looked like it had been done fairly well but the band was thinner and did not curve symmetrically as it should have, almost like the curved piece had been cut out and a straight piece put in.  The center stone mount looked the same as it did when I saw it as a bare mount.  It was not the ring I had ordered but it was acceptable and I had obligations to meet so I needed to get it, Royce knew that also.  So I asked him how we settle this out and he tells to call it even, I reminded him that the agreed price of the ring was $750, and I had a $1,000 deposit on it so he owed me $250.  He tells me that they had to do more work than anticipated but he was evasive about the work.  He said that he had to make some profit, and when I brought my own diamond he wasn't making enough profit on the ring. I knew he was being dishonest and I could have told him to refund my money and give my stone back but it was evident he wasn't going to change and I'm sure there would have been some "charge" for time and materials that I would have been forced to pay.

Royce is a very smooth talker and since he already had my money, it was up to me to convince him to refund back
the difference which I perceived to be a losing battle.  I asked about warranty and got nothing in writing just a promise that he was pretty good about taking care of thing like jewels falling out.  In conclusion I would not ever purchase anything from this business.  From my experience, it is apparent that Royce is unprincipled, dishonest, and greedy.  He talks
smoothly but it's all to his advantage, you will not get a fair deal here.

I sent him a copy of this review before posting it, here is his unedited reply to me:

If you post this slander on line you had better tell the whole truth. Tell how you loved the ring until I would not give you back your $250.00. Tell the weight of the ring and anybody will know that the ring is not fragile. Tell how you brought in a stone that was much larger than the stone that you had originally agreed upon and that expensive modifications had to be made. Tell the diamond weight, ruby weight, and quality of stones and see if there is someone who would give you a better deal. Tell people the quality and size of the diamond that I was going to sell you for $1500.00 and see if you could get a better deal elsewhere. I gave you the best deal that you would be able to find in the metroplex because your girlfriend was a good friend of Becky Pierson. Check out the real facts!   I don't pretend to know anything about your business but you think that you are an expert in mine. You had better check it out. As for calling me dishonest and a cheat, I have more lifelong friends, business associates, and customers that can testify to my character than you can possibly count. When a reporter writes something without expressing all the facts, they get in serious trouble. If you want to post this slander then you better gather all the facts and post those as well.

Wow, nice guy, wished I'd known beforehand.

Update to report

AUTHOR: Kevin - ()

I have never in 53 years been upset enough with unscrupulous business practices to go to this length to complain.  I have filed a report with the Better Business Bureau, which I doubt will help, and posted on several websites.  His diamond is not a factor as I didn’t buy it, I don’t know why he brings it up unless as a diversion.  The weight of the ring?  I don’t know what the weight is, he never told me and it’s not on the appraisal, the band is the same size as an 18 gage wire so it’s pretty flimsy.  He knew the exact stone size I was bringing and hadn’t even started on the ring so that is not a factor either.  The best deal, I don’t pretend to know his business but when I have a $700 quote from another jeweler for the ring I wanted made, he was in the ballpark at $750; he was a thief at $1,000.  I don’t have to be an expert in jewelry to know what I saw and experienced, jewelers are common, and I had asked plenty of questions.  What recourse does someone have when the business holds all the cards, if I dispute him, he holds my money and the ring and I have to put my plans on hold until things get resolved if they ever do.  That could take a long time.  It is apparent that Royce has no intention of making things right so at least I have a ring and even though I will have to replace it, my plans can go forward.  In conclusion I would not ever purchase anything from this business.  From my experience, it is apparent that Royce is unprincipled, dishonest, and greedy.  He talks smoothly but it’s all to his advantage, you will not get a fair deal here.
