I said okay fine, what date can I come back and return these items? She gave me a date of I believe 2/7/12. I held on to the items until that date and went back to Home Depot to return the items again, and the cashier refused my return again.
I asked her why was I being denied a return? She said well, the date that you last came in to return your items, even though we did not let you return them, that day was counted as starting from another 90 day wait.
I told her that their policy did not make sense and I did not even get a chance to return the items.I spoke to the manager of the store and he could not explain it either. I called coporate again and they would not listen and totally brush me off. The return policy is deceptive and their system calculates the date that you attempt to return something as a date that you actually made a return, which it did not. I will never shop at Home Depot again. They are shady and don't treat their customers right. I've spend thousands of dollars at that store and they are terrible.
I was just disappointed in Home Depot return polices, saying one thing and thing doing something totally different in the system they use at the store.

You are NOT alone!

Sometime in the spring, I used the store credit to purchase something. Upon returning home with that item, I looked up the part number on the internet and found it for substantially less elsewhere. So, I DID have the receipt for this item, that I purchased with the store credit. I went back to the store, and attempted to return it, with the receipt.
I was so embarrassed when I was denied. I showed them the receipt, and was told by the people on the phone that because I obtained that store credit without a receipt, even if I had a receipt for an item purchased with it, that new return is counted as a return with no receipt.
Ok, fine. I have better things to do than argue with a shoddy store. So as per their instructions, I left the store and stuck the item in my garage for about 125 days. Two weeks ago I went to return it, and was DENIED AGAIN! I was completely embarrassed. I was treated like a criminal!
I will never, EVER shop at this store again once I'm able to get rid of what I have, and get something I can use. Furthermore, I am considering legal action. Mark my words, never EVER shop at Home Depot.
- Oh brilliant one..please tell us HOW they know YOU purchased them if you paid cash and didn't have a receipt? Personally I can't wait to see what crack-pot theory the OP comes up with.
The word is write not right. Dingbat.
Maybe they should stick to the policy that requires a valid sales receipt.

- It sounds like this is not the first time you have done a return without a receipt. So how about just saving your receipts? Then you can avoid this situation at this and many other stores. Because there are several stores that will not return/exchange an item without a receipt.
I told her that their policy did not make sense and I did not even get a chance to return the items.
- Actually you did get the "chance" to return the item..they just didn't allow it.
Without a receipt a store has no idea if you bought the item from them, or if you even bought the item. Now, I am NOT saying that you did this(as there is no indication that you did), but many people will steal items from a store and then attempt to return them without a receipt. There are other people who find a item cheaper at one store and then attempt to return it to another store that sells it at a higher price. Because of this stores have had to put in various policies.
The fact that their policy says that they can refuse or limit returns at any time and for any reason(which by the way you will find similar policies with other stores) pretty much shoots down your claim that they are being deceptive.
So it looks like you are just going to have to wait it out another couple of months before you can return the items.
Returns within 90 days of purchase and with a valid sales receipt will be exchanged, refunded in cash, credited to your account or refunded via The Home Depot store credit.
The Home Depot reserves the right to limit or refuse to accept the return of merchandise at any time and for any reason.
Without a receipt there was no way of knowing when you actually purchased the items so they started the 90 day clock at the time you attempted the first return. You did not present a valid sales receipt so you may want to relax and wait out the 90 days.
