I too was contacted by an individual representing himself as an attorney with Pat Long Law and The Home Relief Foundation. He identified himself as John Christy but was later identified by Melissa, (his assistant) as John DiCristifalo. This was not the first time I had been approached by 'scam artists' in reference to 'Loan Modification' However, I must admit that Mr. Christy/DiChristfalo is perhaps the most articulate, personal and knowledgeable so far. Being in dire need of this type of assistance while also skeptical, I listened to his< "The new 25 Billion bailout, HAMP2" spiel was rather convincing.
However, conducting my 'Due Diligence' through the Austin, Better business Bureau, I discovered the following; the phone number of 512-213-0999 is not listed to either a Partick Long nor a Home Relief Foundation. However, the business connected to is currently has an 'F" rating, 10 listed complaints within the given time frame and has lost any accreditation with the BBB. All complaints were related to fraudulent 'Loan Modifications'
Let is be a word to the wise. "It is illegal to request or require up front fees for any loan modification process" As attractive as their offers of 'help' may sound. It is just another criminal activity to steal money from those who can afford it the least. Only engage in conversations with these people, John, Melissa, Patricia, or Amanda if you are working with authorities to bring these thiefs to a court of real Law. Do not be fooled, they are smart, articulate and convincing. However, they are only trying to steal your money.

While you decry my not posting name/address etc., it is clearly stated on this
site /Not" to do so. Also your statement that the BBB did not have any listed
complaints is false which can be readily verified by anyone contacting that agency
in reference to this company. It is not my intention or motive to "slander" any legitimate
company whose evidence clearly indicates that they are indeed 'helping' consumers
through a difficult time. The Home Relief Foundation, clearly does not fall into this
category. In addition, any person can easily contact their local Attorney General and
the Better Business Bureau in Austin to verify the legal status of charging fees up front,
for any loan modifications, 'For Profit or not' They may also check the authenticity of Pat Long in connection with the Home Relief Foundation. I think the search results will speak for themselves.

Just so you know I work in the suite across from the non-profit Home Relief Foundation, and I have personally referred many borrowers to them for assistance. These borrowers were in need of help and could not because of credit or other issues refinance to obtain a lower interest rate on their mortgage; so a modification was their best option. The staff of the Home Relief Foundation have been helpful, informative and have delivered what they promised all for less than the cost of a refinance. (for much less than what I would have to charge the borrowers). I know that you may have had a bad experience in the past but to paint everyone with the same brush is ridiculous and really with all do respect you don't know what you are talking about.
The ruling from the FTC regarding modification companies is a ruling that applies to for profit companies only (with a little actual research you could look that up yourself). You clearly want to be and slanderous as possible with using words to inpune peoples character, how can you call someone a thief when you don't even know them.
