I Entered a Photo Contest online at www.picture.com for a chance to win $10,000. The following day they sent me an e-mail saying my photo was Editors choice and could be on the picture.com homepage. Then they sent me a e-mail saying i was a nomine for the 2008 Ameteur Photographer of the year, in that e-mail they said that i had to attend the International Photographer Society Convention in Las Vegas, when I went to register for the convention it said I had to pay $595.00 for my registration and $475.00 for each of my guests, which of cource I did not pay. In the e-mail that said i won editor's choice, I had a chance to buy a plague with editor's choice on it for $83.95, which I did pay for.

Photo Contest NOT a Rip-Off!

AUTHOR: Not Disappointed/Bradenton,Florida - (USA)

POSTED: Thursday, September 24, 2009

TO all of you who think that http://www.picture.com/, and the International Society of Photography is a scam, YOU ARE MISTAKEN!!!!!!!!

I personally, not only signed up, sent in my picture, was told that my photo was chosen, and I would get a trophy even if I wasn't the $10,000.00 winner, but I registered for the convention, (after saving my pennies) and did attend in March of 2007 the convention at the Riviera Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. I met lots of nice people and to this day still talk to a gal I met from Canada.

It was from the 22-25 of March in 2007, and I stayed for everything. Sure it was a little pricey but I did receive the crystal trophy promised the day of my showing, (not after they announced the winner on Sunday) but that morning after I did my presentation. They also had a gallery showing area that we could display other photos that we wanted to and the judges gave us their personal opinions of our work and where our weaknesses were. There were photo shoot sessions, where a few famous photographers showed us how to take pictures of models that were there AND there were lectures to attend to learn other important issues of becoming a good photographer.

By the way, the crystal trophy is worth about $300.00 and I also got my picture entered in their Endless Journeys Book, which I have my own copy of and they sent  my picture to me on a beautiful wooden plaque. I did have to pay for the plaque about $69.95, but the entry in their book I paid nothing for.

To this day, I haven't entered again, but that is because I'm not working now and on my smaller budget it would be too much. But I do intend to go again, hopefully next year.

So for you who haven't actual paid and went to the convention, I would simply say, don't judge the "book" simply by it's cover. Take a chance like I did, invest in your photography future like I did, and maybe those type of credits will help you get a freelance business like I now do. Oh! P.S., my photography teacher was the one who looked over all the material they sent me and told me to go for it.. I'm so glad I did.

TO the person who hasn't gotten their plaque yet, simply call the company and their listed number, explain the situation and I'm sure you'll get it.  Not 1 item I ordered did I NOT receive.
