I was unable to attend. (Sure am glad I didn't go...because I would have been the only one there.) I also, upon, their request, sent a poem to be read by a supposed professional poet. Editors, Managers, etc., were supposed to be at this convention.
The letter I received from The International Society Of Poets also said that this years, 2005 convention, was to be the biggest one in history. I have really been looking forward to receiving my-"Outstanding Achievement In Poetry Silver Award Bowl with my name custom-engraved (a value of $200.00), A Bronze Commemorative Award Madallion, and a Full One Year Membership into the International Society Of Poets for 2005--"If you will allow us to present one of your poems at the convention in your place."
Along with the full one year subscription, to the above Society, an ISP patch and decal and a free subscription to The Poet's Corner quarterly newsletter. The full amount of $187.00, was sent out to them on 2/22/05. I HAVE NOT received ANYTHING from this Society, nor have I heard from them.

Real publishers never have "open calls" where they randomly request poems or stories be sent to them.
Never pay for any honor.

Where did the $187 come in? Membership was a part of the prize package, did they say that the money was needed to release your prizes?
How did you win these 'prizes'? From your post it sounds like you were not already a member. They just contacted you and told you that you won?
Maybe they are just sitting around wondering why someone sent them a check for $187. I sure can't tell from your story.

Any time you're asked to put money up front for an "award," you're being scammed. It's that simple.
