I have had nothing but one big nightmare since signing in with The Law Offices of Bret Margolin Brett Margolin P.C. We had fallen into the all too familiar scenario of unexpected lay offs that lead to falling behind on our mortgage back in September 2010. We received a yellow advertisement in the mail from Rennick, Young, Cohen and Assoc. They told us that they go after the mortgage companies by threatening to take a look at their "truth in lending". Banks don't want to disclose any issues that there may be so they are willing to negotiate your mortgage. This sounded promising as an "Easy Mortgage Modifications" from people who referred us to the "highly recommended attorney Brett Margolin" who claim that they are "Preserving the American Dream, One Home at a Time".....not so much. It seemed great in the beginning. We received many calls during the sign up process and then received a 15 page agreement in the mail that requested that we pay $2,150 which we did in hopes of getting our mortgage lowered. We were told that the process takes about 3 months and we were given our first negotiations specialist..John Newmans. Then we we had Mike Morton. He broke his leg in a car accident and never got around to us A few days later we were notified by phone that David Casler (ext. 6326) would be handling our modification. We sent all of the necessary paperwork and he told us he would follow up in a week. We waited and when he did not call us, we called him. We left a message and he called us back to let us know that he had been busy but he was able to get our package together and that he would send it off. We should not get worried if we hadnt heard from him because this process can take up to two weeks. After two weeks when we heard nothing I started calling them back. I left over twenty calls over a four week period that were never returned. Finally I started to leave messages on the general voice mail. Still, no answer. One day, out of frustration, I finally just started typing in random extensions until I finally got a human on the phone. Nikky Ford (ext.6329). She told me that David's caseload was overwhelming and she was going to put in a request to become our new negotiations specialist. We were relieved as Nikky started off strong. She called us weekly and requested documents from us for about a month and a half. She even answered the phone twice when I called! Then communications began to taper off just like they had with David. I found myself calling and calling all over again leaving message after message, with no response. I then went online and found the number of their New York office (631-676-7707). While on the phone, I suddenly got call waiting and to my surprise it was Nikky Ford. She told me that we were on track and she was sorry for not getting back to me but she had a miscarriage and was out of work. I never heard from her again. My husband then called one month later and yet again...we were assigned another negotiations specialist!! This time Sean Kernohan (6379). He didnt last very long same ordeal, but his emails were now signed the "Mader Law Firm". Then we were assigned Jonathan Hartman back to the Bret Margolin name. At this point it has been one year since we started this process. Our mortgage company threatens to foreclose almost everyday. The law group just told us one lie after another. When we tried to get our money back, they referred us another service... "Foreclosure protection". What happened to our modification protecting us from foreclosure?? This company AND it's staff has absolutely zero integrity. I have spent so many business days from open to close on the phone with machine after machine for NOTHING. I went from feeling safe that we had representation, to dealing with the bank myself. Now we are still going through the process unrepresented and scared to death everyday that the foreclosure letter will arrive. This company is nothing but lies. Dont fall for their manipulations. They have chosen to capitalize on the desperation of innocent people who are just trying to keep their heads above water in these tough economic times. Sadly for us we fell victim to it. I am still tryng to contact anyone who could help us. This is an absolutely disgusting travesty.
