My ripoff is about a recent rental in Fl. I made a reservation on Hotwire back in Jan. for a van costing a totla of 721 dollars for 16 days while on vacation. At the rental counter I did the standard no, no , no I don't want insurance or anything else they try to throw at you to increase your bill.
When I had refused all extras they then give me a contract to sign. I signed the contract where they specified, trusting the clerk at the counter listened when I said I did not want anything else like insurance on the car. Signed and then when and picked up my car. Of course I put the contract in the car not checking it because I trusted the representative of Thrifty to give me what I ask for and not what I denied.
When I turned the car in as I am trying to catch my flight. They looked over the car. Everything good, just sign so I did. Give a recent a stuffed in the pocket not expecting anything other that 721 dollars on the receipt. By the way it is really tiny print so it does not even jump out at you what you just paid.
When I received by credit card statement the bill was over 1200 dollars for the rental. I emailed Thrifty and was told I had signed up for insuranse at the rate of 30 dollars a day. I told them I did not want insurance and they said well you signed the contract. I said well I trusted the agent to put on the contract what I requested and nothing else. I did not request anything other than the car. They said sorry we cannot do anything for you. So , the rental ended up costing an extra 530 dollars. They said they would use it for training purposes, like they did not train right but were not willing to make it good. I told them they took the low road. They said we will send rental coupons to keep good customer whatever. I told them to keep their coupons, I have no desire to do business with them again. Very angry. I mean to it sounds like a scam write it however they want , you sign you walk away. How many people read that contract? You have trusted the rep. to only put on there what you want , not what you denied. I mean they just walked away with 530 dollars. It talkes a long time to make that much money. It just makes me sick
