I am a loyal customer of the Newport Folk Festival, my family and friends have been attending this event since the early eighties. I received an email for a Pre-Sale discount offer for the 3-day ticket with a link and a Promo Code to save about $20 on this approximately $195 ticket.

The presale offer was for January 8th at 10am. I got online exactly at 10am filled in the code and it said there were none available. It took me less than a minute and none were available. I tried 10 times in a row back to back with no luck. I called Ticketmaster after a long wait I spoke to 2 customer service people with no satisfaction. They just gave me a runaround. They didn't believe the presale was today (Jan 8th), so I emailed them the link. They spent an hour on the phone saying they understand why I am upset and talked in circles.

The only way we can prevent these bogus Ticletmaster promos from happening is to spread the word, litigate or get them to stop using this scam.

I will not use Ticketmaster if possible, they try to monopolize ticket sales, charge excessive service fees and use bogus marketing tactics of promoting presale offers with few actually sold. How could Newport Folk Festival 3 day Presale tickets be sold out in seconds, or minutes? The Festival is over 5 months away, there are no seats to sell, it's at Fort Adams State Park with acres of land that you sit on, and has 4 separate stages. So how many presale ticket "spaces" were sold between 10am and 10:01am when it said they were not available.  Shame on Ticketmaster and shame on the promoters of Newport for allowing this to happen.

Ticketmaster presale tickets for Newport was a fraudulent promotion and a Ripoff!

Ticket Master

AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)

I don't believe Ticket Master is the problem here. They, I believe, are given a certain amount of tickets to sell. I had the same problem you had only with The Oakdale Music Theater in Wallingford, CT. I wanted tickets to see Celtic Woman and received an e-mail from Ticket Master that tickets were to go on sale 12/10/2012 at 10 AM. Well I was on line at 10:02 AM and there weren't any good tickets available.

The good tickets were all hogged by CPTV and the only way you MIGHT get a good ticket was to make a donation to this public TV station at almost twice to going price. This would have been my fifth Celtic Woman concert for me. They are that good!!!!. The only available tickets for the general public were so far away from the stage that you can barely see the performers. I've been a customer at the Oakdale for over 30 years, but not anymore. What it boils down to is that CPTV and the Oakdale Music Theater are scalping the tickets in order to make more money.
