I purchased over $800 worth of merchandise from TigerDirect. One of the items, a Sceptre HDTV had a $60 Rebate. To obtain the rebate, the purchaser must send a signed rebate form, the UPC label from the box, the serial number label from the box, and a copy of the Tiger Direct Invoice.

After complying with all of these requirements (as if an invoice is not enough), OnRebate.Com denied my rebate claiming that I had not sent "the correct UPC". I sent the ONLY UPC on the box aside from the UPS shipping label, so it was the correct UPC. Furthermore, my TigerDirect invoice proves that I purchased the item in question.

I contacted TigerDirect about this rather transparent rebate scam but predictably they were not helpful, referring me back to OnRebate.Com when I was unable to produce the "correct UPC" that I had to carve out of a cardboard box and send to OnRebate.com. Of course, when I tried to contact OnRebate.com no one responded to my complaint at all.

I wish I had read the reports on TigerDirect here on the RipOff Report before I had placed my order with TigerDirect. So many other folks have had problems with TigerDirect and OnRebate.Com over these absurd rebate requirements and rebates being denied for arbitrary reasons. I will not purchase from Tiger Direct again. Had I read this website first, I would not have purchased from TigerDirect in the first place.

Rebate Confusion

As stated before, it turns out that OnRebate.com denied this rebate because there was no rebate offer on this particular item. After checking yet again with TigerDirect, this is indeed the case and I was simply misinformed about the rebate being available for the product I ordered.

Thus, I no longer have an issue regarding the rebate for this item with either TigerDirect or OnRebate.com.

Though I was misinformed about the rebate being available for the product I ordered, I attribute this to simple miscommunication. A rebate is available on a very similarly named item by the same manufacturer, so I understand the confusion.

With this in mind, I would consider ordering from TigerDirect again.

TigerDirect and Rebate

After following up with Mr. DeJesus of OnRebate.com, it turns out that the item I was shipped by TigerDirect did not have a rebate. Thus, the UPC code I sent did not match the UPC OneRebate.com was expecting for this offer.

This clears up any issues I have with OnRebate.com.

This does not, however, change my opinion of TigerDirect.com. TigerDirect informed me that I was due a rebate on this item. However, a rebate was not actually being offered! This is misleading at best on the part of TigerDirect, if not actually deceptive. I am going to try to follow this up with TigerDirect yet again.

Attempting To Get Rebate

Although my first email to OnRebate.com received no response, I have written directly to Daniel as he asks in his rebuttal.

Once again I have outlined the situation. OnRebate already has all the required (and signed) forms, UPC code, serial number, and TigerDirect invoice.

I will report back here if, or when, I actually receive the rebate that I am owed.
