I have been ripped off numerous times by the tigerdirect.com rebate system. PDP Systems, Ultra, and others have failed to grant rebates that I deserve on products purchased through tigerdirect.com

Because of this, I am considering filing a class action suit against Tiger Direct. In order for me to do this I need to know how many others have treated unfairly when requesting a rebate through the company.

You guys should try filling out the rebate guarantee forms on the Tiger Sites. (.CA or .Com)

Admittedly my experience is with .CA (the canadian site) but when I get declined a rebate, I fill out a "rebate guarantee form" mail it in, and I get a nice little check in 4-6 weeks.

So far, of my declined rebates, I've got a 100% success rate 3/3!

Try it yourself, it only costs you postage.

You are right Carlos,

When I first filled out their online form it seemed that when you submitted all the information that you were done. It seemed that the email link was just an afterthought to make tracking your rebate easier. It wasn't until I clicked the link that I found out that it was the same as all the other rebates - cut and paste and mail - just that the rebate form was already filled in. I would go back to T.D. and see if they will go to bat for you. There are others in this thread that have had success through T.D.

I still maintain that they (T.D.) should make it easier for the customer. Maybe send out the printed rebate form with the product - or even better, send the rebate in for the customer. I am sure that they could hide it in the price of the product, at the cost of a few dollars. I would go back to any company in a second if they could do that for me!

OnRebate Runaround

I have used manufacturer rebates on electronics for years, and have never had any problems. That is, until I dealt with Tiger Direct.I should have known something was fishy, when I could not get the rebate form, in store, at the time of purchase. The online process was arduous, but I filled everything out, very carefully, and sent it in. I never recieved the confirmation email, even after countless emails, requesting it. After a month of trying to get a live person on the phone, I finally got a rep that advised me to print out the form and send it in with the receipt and upc. I was surprised, because I was under the wrong impression that what I had filled out, originally, was all I needed to get my $75. rebate. I told her that the form she had me print out, stated that everything must be mailed out by 10/09, and it was now 11/04. She said it would be fine, because I filled out the online form well within the time frame. Needless to say, it is NOT fine, because when I checked the status of my rebate, today, it says denied due to late submittal. I have been scammed before, but this company is taking it to a whole new level!

Thanks for confirming the 'rebate via email' process. I've just checked their website and it appears to be okay, however you may be experiencing the server error deeper than I can go since I have no rebate to submit. Keep trying. Although their process is shady at best, if you complete it you will get a check in 6-8 weeks. I will say that for them.

I believe you already know this but for those who don't: BEFORE starting the rebate process with Onrebate.com make sure you disable ANY junk email filters/blockers, be it web-based or 3rd party software or you will not get their email in your inbox. Their email (for me anyway) arrives almost instantly after you click 'Submit' and you won't have time to turn off the filter afterwards. If you've already submitted your rebate without turning off the filter that's OK. Disable the filter then go back to their website and request the email be resent.

Yes Gene, you still have to go through and get them to email you the link in order to get the rebate forms.

To make matters worse I tried to get to onrebate.com tonight to apply for a second rebate form for my Western Digital Harddrive to find an error at their server and that I cannot get to any point on their site. If TigerDirect wants customers to be happy they should do something about it. I am glad to hear that some of you have gotten some of your rebates, but it looks like it will be a long road ahead for me.

Hi there. I bought a SOYO barebone with motherboard from Tigerdirect.com on 8/31/04. send in two rebates form for $50 and $20 on 9/10/04.
(they said postmark prior 9/30/04 and wait 6-8weeks).
I didn't hear from them and send an email on Dec 7th. got the response below:
We would like to apologize for the delay. Your rebate has not been processed. Please keep checking www.verifyrebate.com to check on your status. Thank you for your patience.

Check the website and it says both rebates were approved.

send another email in mid Dec 2004 to follow-up, never heard from them since.

I am really pissed.

How can company like this still in business!

I would like to join the class action!!

On-Rebate using blatant 'SPAM' scam

I'd actually forgotten about this until I read a previous rebuttal by Ken in Vancouver regarding On-Rebate's bad business practices. Ken is absolutely right when he states On-Rebate takes advantage of 'less-skilled' computer users by creating a process very difficult, and potentially impossible, to fulfill.

And here's what they do:

During the rebate process, you are required to provide a valid email address to which On-Rebate will send an email. In that email there is a link you must click to complete the rebate process. If you fail to do this, you don't get your rebate.

In the past this would be a relatively simple process but with the advent of the junk email scourge, practically all ISP's now provide filters and blockers which move, or in most cases, delete what it considers to be 'junk' email or SPAM.

On-Rebate sends you an email addressed in a way in which these filters and blockers will consider it to be junk email and therefore move it to a junk email folder or simply delete it. As a professional computer tech, it's my experience that the majority of email users choose to have junk email deleted rather than moving it to another folder. Therefore... the email which is required to fulfill the rebate process, addressed to look like SPAM, is moved or deleted and never seen by the customer. With the short time frame given to complete this requirement, I don't doubt there are many who never figure out exactly what went wrong. Frankly, this should never happen to even one person.

In all fairness, I honestly can't say whether or not On-Rebate continues this practice. They were certainly doing it in July 2004 and if that's not illegal it certainly should be. I only wish I had taken screenshots like Ken has (hold on to them Ken!)

Here's one more for ya (I have hard copies of everything)... my rebates (2, totaling $70) were mailed 7/19/04... both were approved 11/12/04...

When I hadn't received them by 12/5/04, I emailed Soyo... they replied the following day with an 'apology' and asked me to allow another 2-3 weeks for receipt... fine... of course this time came and went and hello!?!? still no rebates...

I emailed Soyo once again on 12/30/04... I've yet to receive a reply, let alone a rebate... at this point, I don't expect to get either, but I'll tell ya this:

After reading all I have tonight regarding this seemingly obvious 'business pattern', here's one computer technician who'll NEVER purchase parts again with rebates as a consideration... and as for Tigerdirect, I hold them equally responsible and (regardless if I receive the rebates or not; the $ is certainly not the issue) have taken my business elsewhere... and it is my intent to post this information on every site that will allow it...

I read the fine print! Two [2] of the three [3] show up on the rebate site as approved, but no Check! They will not answer emails about the 3rd one!

You State: The rebates come from the manufacturer, Not TigerDirect, so your fight is with the manufacturer offering the rebate. Not exactly correct! TigerDirect.com is the one that advertised the item with a rebate, to entice people to buy! Section 12 of the FTC Act specifically prohibits false ads likely to induce the purchase of products. Section 15 defines a false ad for purposes of Section 12 as one which is "misleading in a material respect". Have have filed a complaint with the FTC, as I printed out the ad that TigerDirect sent me. It states in large red & yellow print, FREE* Barebones Kit! I know what the * means, but it was a TigerDirect ad! Will see what the FTC has to say!

Further to my earlier posts in this thread please note that we have now received the 2 OnRebate/TigerDirect.ca $20 rebates on two Soyo computers purchased by separate families in Vancouver, B.C.

All rebates due from OnRebate have been honoured now. Dave P. in TigerDirect.ca customer service intervened and helped with one of them. Thank you.

We believe that OnRebate needs to improve its communication methods with its customers. Once again good luck to others pursuing rebates here. We completely understand your legitimate frustration.

8 months and waiting!!

Bought my Soyo motherboard in March; says that the rebate will take 12-16 weeks. It is now December 31st, 2004.

I got my approval for it - your website says so. Where is my rebate? I bought the board in good faith that the rebate would be timely. The box looked like a returned product but I needed it so badly that I used it anyway. It worked fine.

It sure would be nice for you to live up to your end of A LEGAL CONRACT. I am owed $63 USD by you and I would very much like to have it now.

I bought some SOYO products from TigerDirect and mailed 3 rebates on Jun 28, 2004. Now is Dec 17, 2004. I am stilling waiting!

Checked the rebates' status on the SOYO website, only 2 rebates have approved. Email several times to asked, and always got "Our records indicate that you have been approved. Please allow 2-3 weeks for your check to be received."

My rebates list:
(1), US$20 + bonus US$20 on CX-5959 mid-towel case
Mailed date: Jun 28,2004
Approved according to online

(2), US$50 on SY-KT600 Dragon Plus v1.0 MOBO
Mailed date: Jun 29,2004
No approval info online!

I want an explaination from TD and will never do business with SOYO.

I have ordered many items from Tiger Direct,some online and I have always recieved the rebates I was promised. Please be sure you are filling out every single field and following the instructions to the letter.

Unless specified by the merchant (in this case Tiger) rebate come from the manufacturer. Your beef is with them and the rebate processor, not Tiger. In my experience, rabates take way too long to process.

TigerDirect.ca agreed today to re-submit our Soyo rebate to On-Rebate

The date of this writing is November 18, 2004.

On-Rebate owe us two rebates for $20 USD each which were due September 15, 2004 and have not been received. On-Rebate has been claiming no record of submission on one. They have been doing this after sending us e-mail accepting the rebate. All very strange.

Today Nov.18, 2004 Customer Service Rep. Dave Paige at TigerDirect.ca advised us that he was re-submitting our rebate and invoice information with other troubled rebates to On-Rebate for authorization and we hope eventual payment.

We want to thank Dave Paige and TigerDirect.ca for this action today. Its the right thing to do.

Providing we are acknowledged as legitimate rebate applicants we will work with Tiger to see their troubles through with On-Rebate. They are obviously having some problems and need to get things straightened out. Who knows maybe Soyo isn't coughing up the rebate bucks or Soyo is having issues with On-Rebate and don't trust them with the money. All educated speculation.

We will just have to wait and see. We can understand not having the money but We can't tolerate liars who try to weasel out of an obligation by claiming they never received a fully documented correctly submitted rebate.

As stated the rebates are late and we haven't received a dime. But being recognized by Tiger today was helpful. We will hold off reversing our credit card charge which is the ultimate weapon in the arsenal.

Best of luck to others here struggling with On-Rebate.

Like some other writers here I didn't trust On-Rebate from the beginning because I noticed early on the absolutely appalling practices they were employing to confuse the rebate application process and make it impossible for less skilled computer users or applicants to track the rebate application process. These folks are also no doubt aware that unless you file your e-mail a lot of it gets automatically erased and records get lost. They play all of this to their advantage.

So I took lots of screen shots of what they did every step of the way and I printed off hard copies of everything and kept very careful files.

If a law firm pursuing a class action or police authorities would like hard proof of dishonest dealings I would be happy to provide what I have. If asked I will authorize the BBB RipOff Report to give my name and telephone number to investigators.

Legitimate Rebate fulfillment houses do not conduct themselves the way On-Rebate does. They do not answer written or telephone inquiries in appropriate context...ie they reply with friendly sounding statements that have absolutely nothing to do with the inquirey made undoubtedly so their correspondence looks good if printed and shown to authorities.

Stay away from On-Rebate...they are very bad news.

I recieved another 30.00 check Nov. 12 from the manufacture of the motherboard and it will be applied to the credit card bill. Thus far I have received 2 rebates of the 5 from the products I ordered from Tiger Direct. The rebates recieved are directly from PNY and Mach Speed and did not go through Onrebate. I called Onrebate friday 11/12/2004 and was told no documentation was received and I would have to resubmitt the documentation. I have certified mail reciepts that show the documents were received. Thus far I have never received any rebates from Onrebate and it appears I never will. I will apply the last 30.00 dollars received from the Mach to the credit card bill and then we can all head to court over the remaining 90 dollars plus credit card charges. I'll tell it to the judge and also be sending copies of what has happened to FTC and Florida AG's office. My advice if you are buying products from Tiger Direct because of the rebates offered and the rebates have to go through Onrebate, DON'T DO IT! If you are thinking I was setting Tiger Direct up, knowing this was apt to happen, you guessed correctly. We will see how all this plays out.

2 Rebates not received on Soyo Computer systems...claiming "have not received invoice & UPC"

We are having the same problem as other writers in this forum on 2 separate computer systems purchased by different families. According to e-mailed rebate acceptance notices from On-Rebate both cheques were due at the separate residential locations on September 15, 2004. No cheques have arrived in either case.

The rebate fulfillment house (On-Rebate) for the Soyo barebone Computers purchased is claiming in one case that they have not received the invoice and UPC code. This claim is as astounding as it is ridiculous because they sent e-mail on both acknowledging receipt of these documents and by a second set of e-mails dated July 27, 2004 "accepting" the rebate claims and indicating cheques would be received by September 15, 2004. Yes...in fact we did send rebate claims on time with the required documentation.

In the case of the second computer their website indicates they have printed and mailed a cheque which has never been received.

These guys are plain nuts. Bottom line is that by their own written promises both rebates were due on site on Sept. 15, 2004. The date of this writing is November 14, 2004. Neither family has received a cheque. When we contacted the fulfillment house On-Rebate they claim to be "a little behind" and in the case of the second computer recommend we wait "a few more weeks".

We have contacted Customer Service Rep. Dave Paige at TigerDirect.ca on November 14, 2004 who says he will look into the one claiming no receipt received and that Tiger will make the rebate happen if necessary. So...we will see. A lot of effort for $20 USD.

A little scary. Two separate families and two separate scenarios...same result...no cheque. Serious waste of valuable time.

These people just do not pay.

Reports to Ripoffreport dot com are whining??? I think not. Now I do want my rebates, I surely do. BUUUUTTTT, I post here for other reasons as well. One, I want everyone who visits to know about my experiences with Tiger Direct. Am I lying? Tiger Direct knows I'm not. That's why their employees post here trying to put out fires and keep their customers from fleeing. They might satisfy one or two angry customers here because this is public forum but they will ignore hundreds of others who did not complain. The other ripped off consumers know I'm not. I'll complain to the BBB, reseller dot com and everywhere else that I can. In my opinion, Tiger Direct and some of their suppliers are not guilty of honest, innocent, inadvertent errors. They have, in my opionion engaged to willful, deliberate actions to deny many consumers the rebates they applied for in good faith. My purpose in posting here is two-fold. One, to get the rebates that I am entitled to. And two, to hit Tiger Direct where they hit me....in the wallet. How many sales have they lost already from consuers who have read these posts? Many I hope.

I would be willing to bet that most of the people here missed something in the fine print as Matthew was saying. Most ridiculous is the guy from Oklahoma that disputed the charges and then pay for each item, as he gets the rebate.

If any of you really have been wronged you should file with the Better Business Bureau.
I have filed with them twice for unrelated issues, one for a collection agency trying to claim a debt I didn't owe. The BBB contacts the company that the dispute is with. and the company jumps to make it right.

When you report it here - you are whining
When you report to the BBB you will actually get your rebate because they have power to pressure the company in question.

So stop whining and go get your rebates!

Those whose only advice is to "read the fine print" are simply blaming the victim. This site contains many, many reports of rebate scams perpetrated by Tiger Direct. I read reports here of competent people who comply with the rebate terms to the letter and still get burned. The same pattern is seen over and over. Did all of us lose our reading glasses? I too have received SOME rebates for purchases made at Tiger Direct. But I've been scammed out of three rebates by Tiger Direct and their suppliers.

In my most recent experience where I had to buy the motherboard on a specific day, June 11th, I HAVE A PRINTOUT OF THE ORDER CLEARLY ON JUNE 11TH. And it's not in FINE PRINT. Its clear as day. Tiger Direct post-dated my order to June 12th to prevent me from qualifying. They put June 12th on the packing slip which must be submitted to the manufacturer to prevent me from qualifying. I'm sure they did this will full knowledge and consent of the manufacturer, Mach Speed. I have submitted my proof to both Tiger Direct and Mach Speed and both choose to ignore it.

I have the email replies. They could even check their weblogs to confirm what I'm saying. I have urged them to do so. And I don't let Tiger Direct off the hook by mumbling that it's a manufacturer rebate so it's up to me to take it up with the manufacturer. I bought the product from Tiger Direct. Tiger Direct benefitted from advertising a bogus price after rebate they they won't honor. Tiger Direct took my credit card number. They have a responsiblity to intervene for me with the manufacturer when I have irrefutable proof that I'm right.

Also "Ripped-Off" by TigerDirects rebate alliances

I have done plenty of rebates with companies...and i know the "drill." Most companies on the internet try very hard to honor their offered rebates.

Unfortunately, (for me) TigerDirect is not one of them. I still have the scanned images of:
1. Bar Codes
2. Reciepts
3. Product descriptions cut from boxes.
4. Rebate slips (with every bit of the required information filled out).

I recieved one rebate of the five submitted over four months ago. I am sick of it...I will NEVER order anything from TigerDirect again.

I would be interested in pursuing legal action against them. They do nothing but ruin the process for honest companies. For every person who puts a report on this site there are hundreds more that just accept it. I have only one description for the way that i feel that they conduct business: "stealing"

I too sent in a rebate to Tiger Direct which was never received until I did three things.

1. File a complaint on this website Rip-off Report aka badbusinessbureau.com

2. File a complaint at resellerratings.com

3. I think the most important, is to file a complaint with the BBB of Miami Fl. I got a pretty fast response, and the rebate price was credited to my credit card.

I got a 30.00 dollar check yesterday from PNY for the rebate on the memory I purchased in August. I immediately paid 30.00 to the credit card company that I've disputed the rebate charges. Only four more or 120 dollars to go. The credit card company understands my stand on this and said they were going to call Onrebate and try to help. They are sending my account and correspondence over this matter to some team that deals with special situations.

I bought a Mach Speed P4MDPT from TigerDirect on June 11, 2004. This purchase had two rebates from Mach Speed but only for purchases made from
TigerDirect on June 11th ONLY. I printed the order confirmation and it is clearly dated 6/11/04 10:16:10 EST.

This is when I made the purchase and TigerDirect accepted my credit card. TigerDirects subsequent email confirmation is dated June12 although in the header data of the message, June 11th is
shown. I received the order with their packing slip which clearly shows the qty, item number, and description.

I sent the original packing slip (which by the way is the ONLY thing TigerDirect ships with orders) plus the original product UPC and rebate form to the address on the rebate form within the required period.

So I waited the required 8 - 10 weeks and sent a follow up email to Mach Speed. This vendor replied that my rebate request was rejected because 1) the original packing slip is not an
invoice and 2) The packing slip is dated June 12th and I had to purchase the product on June 11th to qualify for the rebate. That is total BS
and I have the hard copy printout of my order to prove that I made that purchase from TigerDirect on the evening of June 11th.

It's clear to me that many of their rebate offers are misleading at best, blatantly fraudulent at worst.

Still waiting for a rebate response

I purchased some items from Tiger Direct in September 2004 and August 2004 and all in all there are supposed to be 5 x30 or 150 dollars total in rebates. Three of these involve Onrebate.

I mailed in everything required and so far I've been unable to determine if the rebates will be honored. I disputed the credit card charges for the disputed amount and if I don't receive the rebates the credit card company will have to eat the loss. I'm not paying the credit card company until I know the rebates have been approved.

Tiger Direct screwed me over before on a rebate deal but I didn't have time to pursue the matter, now I have the time and I plan to make them wish they had honored what they advertise and promise. I've contacted customer service and Onrebate several times I've got tracking numbers for the items at Onrebate and so far all I can determine is Onrebate has one messed up website, the information using the tracking numbers is inaccurate. So far all I am able to determine is Onrebate may have been approved one of the rebates, but it was credited to the wrong item. I can't complain about the service and the merchandise it was delivered promptly and does what it is supposed to do, but the rebates are another matter. Tiger Direct may have washed their hands of me but I'm not through with them. Count me in on any class action suit.

As time goes on and if things don't get straightened out I'll be filing complaints with the Attorney Generals in Florida , my state, and also the Feds against Tiger Direct. All I'm asking is I be notified the paperwork for the rebates was OK and the rebates are approved and will be paid and I will settle with the credit card company. I've done a lot of rebates with other companies and I always got the rebate, but I don't have much confidence in Tiger Direct and their rebate offers. Like I said count me in on any class action lawsuit, I'd just as soon a lawyer get the money as Tiger Direct.

Arbi. I was just curious about your comments cause I know that we had this issue where there was an error on the rebate form.
You're telling all kind of things about TigerDirect.Com and how the ripped you off. Well I was checking into your order E9036262 and I see that on 08/03/04 your VISA credit card was refunded $50.00 from TigerDirect.Com.

That was 2 weeks after you were refunded the money for the rebate. Shouldn't you had also mentioned that on you comments.

I know there are several problems with the rebates and we're doing out best to help the customers. Remember always to send the rebate within the postdate indicated in the rebate form. also, keep copies of everything that you send in. I saw the issue with BestBuy and sorry to say that BestBuy is right. Come on, you normally have 15 to 30 days to submit the rebates and if you're negligent you can't go out trying to blame your mistakes on someone else. As per TigerDirect.com if you get a denied rebate and you did everything correctly just fax us the Denial letter and we'll take it up with the manufacturer so you get your money back. Also for the onrebate.com rebates, lots of AOL customers are not getting the tracking number to go on with the rebate process. That's something that AOL is blocking out, when submitting a rebate try to use a yahoo or hotmail account and remember to check on your "Junk email box" sometimes emails get filtered out as junk emails and you'll never see them if you don't check there. We're not perfect but we're trying to the best for our customers. Like I said before, if you feel you did everything right when you submitted the rebate and you don't get it by all means call us and we'll try to help you with the rebate company. Again remember to make copies of everything that you mail and try to mail it in time.

I have recieved rebates for Tiger Direct

I have ordered many items from Tiger Direct,some online , and some from the store in Miami. I have always recieved the rebates i was promised. Is everyone sure they are filling out every single field? I had one where i had to put the serial # of the motherboard, but it told me where to find it. I had to take it back out of the case, which was a pain, but i ended up getting my 30 dollars. I admit the rebate forms are sometimes hard to fill out and everything MUST be filled out EXACTLY or you will get nothing.

My advice is to ensure that every field is filled out,and read all the small print on rebate form pay attention as to whether the original UPC or a photocopy is accepted, make copies of everything you send for yourself, just in case. It does take many weeks to get the rebates back. I have never used onrebate.com , but if you look up the product on tigerdirect.com and click on the rebate section there is a rebate form for each item, you can print and send back "snailmail".

I received a tiger direct advertisement in email. It was for a Lexmark p707 and a creative web cam offer with a $50 rebate from Lexmark. They made a mistake the rebate from Lexmark was only valid if you purchased a digital cam worth over $99. I called them and asked them about it they said it was a misprint on their part and Lexmark is aware of the problem and I WILL get my rebate. Needless to say Lexmark rejected my offer Tiger Direct is giving me the run around. Telling me the send my offer in again I contacted Lexmark and they are telling me I wont get my rebate. I will NEVER shop from them again.

How can people still buy from those scammers. The first time I saw fraud reports on these people was in 1997 and I was looking into buying a new computer.

The fraud claims were for selling doa computers and parts and not refunding customers their money when they complained. Having awful customer service.

They have been in business for years and apparently are still scamming people.
