We contacted Jim Jerde from an Internet search of membership campgrounds so we could join Coast to Coast and were told he was a broker. He never told us he had an interest in Timber Lodge RV Resort; instead, he told us this membership was the only one he had available at the time. After a series of phone calls and being assured that Timber Lodge was the only one we could have, and being told we had to have something quickly before we could join C2C, Jerde sent a packet. The packet indicated Timber Lodge was open year-round, 7 days a week, and again, that it was the only special priced membership he had. He charged us $795.
The paperwork gave no selection of home parks at all. He also includeda Federal Truth in Lending Agreement in an amount higher than we were paying and said he had to do that to satisfy AOR, which we were not even interested in purchasing, but that he told us it was all one package. In a welcome letter, he told us Timberlodge maintained a staff at the resort, but we've never been able to reach anyone by phone, only by email or mail.
On 1/25/09 I was told, by email, that, "You can have Timber Lodge resell the membership for you. You will need to check with the contract department when the 48 months is up to see what the cost is for Timber Lodge to resell it is."
We had procured three different couples who wanted our membership, but backed out because of numerous reasons, one of which was that no one was at the resort. We later found out that the resort is not open year-round; yet, we were never notified of that. Our hands are completely tied and we are not able to give this membership away because of the bad business practices of Jim Jerde.
We have been emailing back and forth and I have asked him to compassionately allow us to terminate this membership without penalty. Surely this membership has more value to him than what he collects from us! We have health issues, we can no longer afford this membership, and we have paid our dues faithfully up to this point.
I cannot understand why Timber Lodge will not release members when they ask. Other resorts willingly allow their members to transfer. We have an opportunity where we live to have a free home park, and Jerde will not allow us to terminate. I am beside myself, and even though this will be a long battle, we are ready to fight this man. He should have disclosed to us right off the bat that he had an interest in Timber Lodge, rather than telling us it was the only one available.

Yet another ripoff from the Jerk.

I got out of my contract by going thru the Minn. BBB stating that he misrepresented what he was selling. I was told that I would be able to sell back my membership if I ever sold my rv or did not need the membership anymore. Well let me tell you that was a lie from the start. He took advantage of a senior citizen, also misrepresented the package and the list goes on. There are a lot of folks who are trying to get out of that scam. My name and number below should you wish to talk to me regarding this. A class action suit sounds in order.

Rebuttal to Jerde, who obviously doesn't pay attention to everything!

When we first approached Timber Lodge, we explained to Jerde or whatever title he chooses to use, e.g. administration, that we were now living in a Senior 55+ community and they offer a FREE home base membership to Coast to Coast members. This was and is the only way we could have afforded to continue with C2C. I explained last year all of this to Timber Lodge or Jerde or administration, and thus started the exchange of emails and the threat of a lawsuit or collection agency getting involved, so we reluctantly paid our 2009 dues to them.
This has been going on for a year, and as stated before, I have an email from whoever dated 1/25/09 that Timber Lodge would resell the membership, so we relied on that fact and waited until now to get the ball rolling on getting rid of the membership, only to find out that now Jerde says Timber Lodge help sell the memberships.
Maybe it's too difficult for him to pay attention since there appear to be so many others who are dissatisfied as well.
If Jerde would like a full report from my doctors, I would be happy to furnish them to him, at his cost. I am now on Social Security disability, and I think that says it all. We are dealing with a man who has no compassion and is so hungry for that almight dollar, that we senior citizens are like sheep thrown to the wolf!

Rebuttal to Carrie Hughes

Our records indicate Robert and Carrie Hughes of Brownsville, TX purchased a membership through our brokerage firm a few years ago. That the membership is a industry standard agreement.
Two things stand out after initial review of their report. One is the state they cannot continue the membership due to health issues and financial difficulties, yet they continue by stating the have a local resort (different than the one they purchased from us) they want to join. Okay are they wanting to end the obligation to the Timber Lodge resort for health and financial reasons or is it because they decided they now want to belong to another resort?!?
Second is they state they want a resort where they live. They live in Texas and Timber Lodge is in Texas. Something doesnt add up here.
Jim Jerde
