I saw an add for a Titan product on Craigslist and called the guy. He claimed to be an individual and not a salesman. I called Titan and asked them to have one of their salesman in the area call me.

He called me a little later and I sat on the phone with him and "let him" bully his way into coming to my house. I resisted to see if he would persist and he did. He shows up at my door. I had told the company I wanted to talk to someone about a compressor only and this guy shows up with a truck load of stuff. He starts in on his sales pitch always referring to his boss and how he does not work for Titan but he works for NCS and helps them set up the trade shows (funny thing is he couldn't tell me where the trade show was, because he obviously knew I would just call the hotel and ask if there was a trade show there.)

So he skates around the question and begins to tell me how he has this truck load of stuff his boss made him take out of storage, and now, if I will just pay 5500 for this one tool, I can have all the tools for free even though the retail price for everything is 18,000,. I tell him I can't buy all the tools and I am only interested in the compressor, at which point he gets on the phone to his boss and begins to talk so scripted in my favor like he is on my side. He comes back with a lower price, and surprise surprise the generator is a lot bigger than the one he is supposed to have and it is an 850 mistake, but if I buy today I get to keep the compressor. (I sold door to door vaccuums before, telemarketed life insurance, sold mortgages, this was hilarious to watch, absolutely hilarious....) I resist and he lowers again.

In the end, they come to a 4800 to 4900 dollar price, at which time it was obvious he was not listening to me. ALL I NEED IS A COMPRESSOR. I live in the city, why on earth would I need a water pump that could drain a pond in 2 days. I told him the conversation was over and he needed to leave. He tried to resell me again asking what I could offer. Then I pulled his punk card and told him he was the one that just got played, that I had read Rip off report.com and wanted to see if it was true, and sure enough he played it out just like they taught him.

At this point he became VERY irritated and defensive telling me he was going to tell his boss about this guy on ripoffreport.com and how it was a disgruntled employee who needs to get a life. After his huffery and puffery...This guy had the gall, the nerve to try to sell me a 1000 watt generator out of the cab of his truck for about 250. WOW the nerve, claiming it was his and he was selling it on his own at this discounted price.

As it turned out the poor craigslist guy selling the compressor had been had by someone telling the same story and had been driving around in a van looking for farmers.

The crappy salesman left and had the nerve to call me back and told me that his boss said he can sell the compressor for 1000 cash out the door. I eventually bought the compressor from the old man selling the compressor. He was asking 650 and eventually took 550. The company salesman wouldn't even talk to me for less than 1000. I told him I could buy a new one for 650 and he he went silent.

I will see how the product works, but I am very disappointed at their less than honest sales approach. It is very disappointing. Try it for yourself. I say call the company, tell them any line you like, and that you are looking for one specific item see if some fool doesn't show up with a truck full of parts and absolutely refuses to part them out, and how he is in a bind and if I buy one part he will sell me all for one price. How can I trust that your product works when the first contact I have with your company is a shady salesman. Sad. very very sad.

I have pictures of this guy, his truck with license plate and all his stuff in his truck. My cellphone records will show when I called Titan, when their salesman called me back and we talked back and forth.

Worked there for one day

AUTHOR: Brad - (Virgin Islands (US))

POSTED: Friday, January 01, 2016

I was desperately looking for. Job during the recession, I would say 2009 or so. There was an ad on Craigslist for a "driver" position. This was in Austin, TX. I replied to the post and was asked to come in for an interview. The "interview" was in a conference room of a seedy hotel in north Austin. They had company literature set up, and then talked about being cool with a sales pitch. They discussed travel and talked about how much money you could make. They travel all over the country, and the company does not reimburse for travel. Right then I was skeptical. I've been on the road before, and this is the first time I've ever heard anything like this. They sent me out for the day with a senior salesman, who also brought his girlfriend with him. The guy was nice enough, but it is a total scam. The trade show line is a lie, and they say the same thing to everybody. There was no trade show, they simply ship the equipment, And fill them up with gas and oil. They guy I was with, targeted elderly people that looked like they were farmers. He even made a sale to some really old guy out in the country, and of course tried to sell the whole package. The guy only bought the diesel generator. As the day went on, we got further out in to the country, and this guy was even driving the truck on to private property ranches, which made me extremely uncomfortable. People on these properties were pissed, and I didn't blame them. He dropped me off late in the day and I went home. Needless to say, I didn't show up in the morning and wouldn't do that job of it were the last job on the planet. Lying to people and scamming the elderly is not for me. Sell the equipment fair and square like everybody else. I didn't understand why we had to use the trade show line, and why we had to make fake calls to the boss. There was a bottom price that we were allowed to sell the equipment for, and the "boss" didn't have to clear it. It is all a scam, and this is first hand from a guy who was there for one day. I never got paid, and luckily I was smart enough to only waste one day of my life. I would have left after the first "sales call", but unfortunately we were way out in the country, and I didn't have my truck. Don't buy anything from these people, please do yourself a favor. And even more so, make sure you do some research after replying to a "driving" job on Craigslist.

I have a long time friend, met him in 1979. This man has honor, generosity, a caring soul, a zest for life. He would never hurt a soul.  He has worked for Capital Equipment/Titan Industrial for many year about 30 years give or take a few something like that. He would never try to rip anyone off. He is out there just like anyone else just trying to make a living, support his family. So he is a little forward/pushy what ever you want to call it, most sales person are required to follow a script. He is trying to sale equipment for a price, the equipment is right there you can see it. I don't see where the rip off is. You can see it and I'm sure he would let you test it if you would ask. The bottom line is through your false alligations or miss understandings you are taking the lively hood away from this man and his family and any one else that works as a door to door per say sales person. Everyone has the right to make a living and he is trying to make a honest one.  Like I said I've known him for 34 years and I can say whole heartly you are judging him wrong. Dusty Roads

More on Titan.

AUTHOR: Montana Rancher - (United States of America)

POSTED: Saturday, July 28, 2012

One of the rebutters has claimed to be a former employee, which I doubt, but the claims on the rebuttal are not factual.  I have purchased many diesel generators and the Titan 7500 is both underpowered and almost three times the price of competitive generators on a cost per watt.  The fuel consumption is higher than average and the output is very low for a generator. The warranty is for only 1 year and is no better than almost any other generator, although you claim it is one of the best in the industry.  Further, the shipping cost to use the warranty can be excessive due to the weight and the distance a consumer would have to ship it.  In short, the warranty is worth very little if you don't live a short distance from the SC hdqtrs.

The compressor is comparable to a Home Depot model for which I paid $699 in Billings MT, not the most competitive market in the US.  The Home Depot Model has a Honda engine and warranty repairs consist of just taking it to any Home Depot.  Compared to shipping the generator back to SC, that is a much better warranty.  A Honda motor is also a plus.

I did much the same thing as the original poster - I had a Titan Industries truck out to the ranch to see what they could do for me.  The same bait and switch tactics, the same story line, almost to the word.  People in our part of the country are aware of these crooks and their victims are usually the target of either sympathy or ridicule.  It is very hard to resell these products. too many people are aware of their real value.

Try looking for these on ebay as people try and off load their mistakes.  You will find the items at less than a third of the "price" still shrink-wrapped.  I am happy to see that the Rippoff Report has them in their sights.

Costco sells high quality generators that compete very effectively with the specs on Titan for about 20% of the price.  Look at the Honeywell, Champion or Honda series for good alternatives.  And noone does a better warranty than Costco, in my humble opinion.

Titan sucks

AUTHOR: Bigpoppyjosh - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, June 11, 2009

Look Matt your response is so full of crap. Today is june 11th it was less than a month ago that i worked for them. I can say that everyone that works for titan is crooked. I can say that yes we are told by the president of titan to tell everyone that there was a show and we are giving them such a deal. Bull crap. This equipment sucks. They say we can't ship them back because of D.O.T laws regarding the gas that was put in them from the shows. The only reason there is any gas in them is because we just put it in them. You would not believe the amount of people that I have ran across that said yeah i bought one of those generators last year and it broke in less than a week and when i tried to call the company about it. It was disconected. I was on the road selling these pieces of crap and I can tell and show you who to get in touch with and I can even show you the pitch sheets they have for us to use. Telling you all that BS and the pitch sheets are handed down and wrote by the company. All i can say to you is if you bought one of these things im sorry and for everyone else BEWARE. Plus I have tons more if anyone else wants to know.

You are so mixed up!!!

I used to work for this company. They have an outstanding reputation for there equipment. They bend over backwards to help their employees. It isn't a lie!!!
They have one of the best warranties in the business. They do Have Industrial shows all over the country. They have for years. It simply costs the company to much money to ship the equipment back. So they just Liquidate what they have left.
The people that buy the equipment actually get a better deal after the show!

You have to pay full price for the stuff if you buy it online!! Have you ever priced a diesel generator that is worth a crap? Most likely not. Some go for as much as $8,000.00 for just one!!!
Maybe before you pass judgement on them.....
Why don't you go to one of their shows and see for your self?

You can't compare Titan Industrial to "Home depot" They are one of the leading generator companies in the business.

I have to admit... I miss helping set up the shows. You get to travel all over the country. What a cool job!
