Tohatsu Outboard Motors, Nissan Outboard Motors, Dealer on Ebay. Internet Forum Scams, Poor Customer Service, Obscene Language Towards Customers.

I had a problem with Tohatsu Outboard Motor product service and approached Tohatsu Outboard representative, Elvin D'Angelo, from www.internetoutboards.com, who claims to be the second largest Tohatsu outboard motor dealer in the world and sells Tohatsu outboards on Ebay as well as his website or websites. He was extremely rude to me and used, what I consider to be, foul and obscene language towards me.

For the record, I have read public information that, in my opinion, confirms the fact that Tohatsu or Tohatsu Outboard Motors manufactures Tohatsu outboards and/or Nissan Outboard Motors in China. This information has been denied by the Tohatsu Outboard and Nissan Outboards dealers, however, copies of official documentation in support of this claim are available to the public (official documentation available).

Non EPA certified outboards, including Tohatsu outboards, are offered for sale in the U.S. by dealers. I believe Tohatsu dealers, including www.internetoutboards.com and/or www.onlineoutboards.com, have recently or in the past, provided direct links to their websites offering to sell non EPA outboards or Tohatsu outboards or Nissan outboard motors directly to the public in the U.S.A. ( true copies of printouts available).

I have reason to believe that with regard to the Tohatsu outboards ordered from www.internetoutboards.com and Tohatsu dealers on Ebay that in many or most cases the Tohatsu outboard motors are dropped shipped directly from Tohatsu America Corp. located in Dallas, Texas or Farmers Branch, Texas.

Tohatsu Outboards and Nissan Outboard Motors representative Elvin D'Angelo (under the username Tohatsu Guru), of www.internetoutboards.com, provides untruthful information to unsuspecting customers seeking unbiased advice on outboard motor products on boating forums. It seems obvious to me from the forum text that customers are provided with untruthful and/or inaccurate information in order to slander (liable) or damage the reputation of other outboard motor brands and to entice the customer or potential outboard customer to purchase product from his Tohatsu outboard dealership or his website. I have reason to believe this is done with the assistance of a second or third party who appear to be working in unison with the Tohatsu Outboard dealer, internetoutboards.com, on the forum. (Text is available in support of this proposition.) In addition, negative information about Tohatsu Outboards and Nissan Outboard Motors appears to be deleted from the forum text. I believe this is a scam or certainly misleading because the truthful information is deleted, but the false information is left in the boating forum.

I was a Tohatsu Outboard motor customer. I contacted Tohatsu outboards with my product concerns and was treated with extreme rudeness by the Tohatsu Outboard representative. In further communications with the Tohatsu dealer or representative I attempted to discuss the poor customer service and other Tohatsu Outboard product concerns. The Tohatsu Outboard representative Elvin D'Angelo of www.internetoutboards.com referred to me directly as "..a lowlife piece of ***...". The Tohatsu dealer was extremely rude and used other foul language without cause. (Transcript available).

I have read www.ripoffreport.com number 172104 (copy available) where Tohatsu Outboard dealer had apparently used what, in my opinion, is obscene and excessively foul and insulting language towards the Tohatsu Outboard customer from Alaska. I think it is wrong for Tohatsu to treat Tohatsu Outboard customers in this manner. It surprises me that the Tohatsu Outboard Corp. would condone this type of treatment of their customers. (http://www.ripoffreport.com/reports/0/172/ripoff0172104.htm).

In any event, there are actual text transcripts available of email communications with Tohatsu Outboard Motors representative, or dealer, Elvin D'Angelo, the so called Tohatsu Guru, who purports himself to be one of Nissan or Tohatsu Outboards largest world dealers.

If this is the way that Tohatsu outboards motors' top dealers or Nissan Outboards' representatives treat their customers simply seeking service I could only speculate what type of service the less successful Tohatsu Ouboards and Nissan Outboard Motor representatives or dealers provide to their customers.

In my opinion, Tohatsu Outboards and/or Nissan Outboard Motors poor customer service is bad enough without the customer having to tolerate verbal abuse. Customers should not be referred to as "...lowlife piece of ****" , "...dumb****" , "stupid ****", as a "...retarded motherless ****..." , stating the customer would "..**** their own children if they weren't a fudge packing ****..." or saying "...**** you" to the customer.

I am surprised that Tohatsu America Corp. or Tohatsu Nissan Outboards allows this type of inappropriate behavior with its representatives or dealers or condones this type of treatment to their customers. I am also surprised that the Tohatsu Outboard Motor manufacturer allows this type of behavior towards Tohatsu Nissan customers and the apparent deceptiveness or dishonesty and/or internet scams to continue.

In my opinion, in short of Tohatsu Outboards pleading a severe case of Tourette's Syndrome, there is absolutely no excuse for using obscene or excessively foul language while dealing with customer service. In addition, all different types of people enjoy boating activities. This includes mentally handicapped people, homosexual persons and people of different ethnic origins and cultures. Slurs and/or discrimination against these customers based on their disabilities, differences or preferences should not be tolerated, particularly during customer service communications relating to product from a corporation such as Tohatsu.

Tohatsu Outboards are Made in Japan.

AUTHOR: Betowess - ()

see this link. I think this person's report is mostly nonsense, other than he allegedly was offended by some bad language. It is common knowledge that Tohatsu motors are made at the Japanese plant mentioned and pictured on Tohatsu's website. Look at their home page and decide for yourself! tohatsu.com/about.html

tohatsu dealers

AUTHOR: tohatsu best mtr made - ()

here is my comment to the dealers opinion.  i pretty much agree with what you say, i was just about ready to send for a 15 hp tohatsu via the internet. i figured it out, i woyld have save about $500.00, no sales tax, cabelas visa card, price of the mtr. shipped free to my door. etc: i did not do it, why? i have a 40 hp tldi toh. about 6 yrs old, best motor i ever owned, i wanted a smaller motor for a boat i keep around home here, the other one is up north. i inquired a couple different direct ship outlets for nissan toh. one off ebay, that one scared me with negative reviews, the other in tenn. i asked around on the net, and there were 2 different guys told me, 1 had bought a motor that way, they said that in the manual, the warranty is void, if the motor is not set up by a dealer. i bought my 40 from a dealer about 20 minutes from my house, he was kind of a loose cannon, he is long gone, so i have no known dealer anywhere around here, so buying one off the internet would not have been afactor.

what really hurts the tohatsu co. is very poor dealer network, for as good as there motors are, dealers are far and few between. and you never see there motors advertised, lot of people just do not know what they are, i have had several people ask me, where in the world did you get that motor, more than 1 at the boatlandings, when they see me come in and can hardily hear the thing running, they think it is a 4 stroke, i would not have a 4 stroke, big and they vibrate, at least the smaller ones i have ran. that said, mercury smaller mtrs. as you know are made by tohatsu, so that tells you something, but outboard motors are outrage in price, so i can see why people do go to the internet to buy them, in fairness, they will last a life time if you give them modest care.  my 2 cents worth, hope your business picks up, you have a good product

Being in the market for a new outboard myself I was considering Tahatsu. After reading the above report I can absolutely say I will Not be purchasing ANY of their products. Even the possibility of a Chinese built outboard on my American made boat makes me sick. Thank you for the info and God Bless.

Untrue statements and unfair remarks!!

AUTHOR: Jim_xeod - (U.S.A.)

I have had personal experience with Internet Outboards, and Elvin. He has always been very responsive and helpful. His posts under the name "Tohatsu GURU" have always been to assist others with their problems. Free of charge by the way! I have ordered parts, and used his assistance and he is a stand-up guy, that stands behind what he sells and services!
I can not for the life of me think of why the original poster put this mis-information about where Tohatsu motors are manufactured (this is always on the ID plate by fereral law!) or would smear Elvin and his company.

My biggest question is this. How exactly did this person get "ripped-off"?

His post should be ignored as total false and mis-leading information!

Tohatsu Outboards are made in Japan, not China...Only an idiot would think otherwise.

AUTHOR: The Truth - (U.S.A.)

It's blatantly obvious that there is an intent to defame Tohatsu and it's dealers by suggesting that Tohatsu engines are manufactured in China. The fact that a Chinese company has distribution rights to sell them in China in no way is proof of anything other than that the Chinese domestic outboards are so bad that they have to import quality products from Japan.

Furthermore, the rest of the above libelous remarks are as ridiculous as the the manufacturing claims....Surely anyone can tell from the way that the "complaints" were written that they were done by a competitor or a small minded fool...In this case both. I would urge anyone who reads that garbage to immediately go out and buy a Tohatsu from internetoutboards.com or onlinoutboards.com as they are both reputable companies. Faceless cowards who make baseless complaints about merchants should not get away with it. Punish them by doing business with those honest business's.
