On Aug. 1, I rented a car from Toyota Rent A Car, after a minor "fender bender". I had it from Aug. 1 at 5:23 PM until Aug. 2 at 4:30 PM.

I was charged $60.93 (including tax). It seems, according to them, I had the car for 2 calender days, at $23.99 per day.

I was probably told this, along with all their other conditions ie: no smoking in the car, etc., but since I had rented cars before, and was charged for 24 hour periods, I paid little attention to their LONG speel. There was a "C" under charges in the contract, which I assume means "calander days".

I have called their major competitors in the Houston area ( Alamo, Avis, Enterprise, and they all bill in 24 hour increments!

Then remember, they rent the car again, at say 5 PM, so they get paid DOUBLE for that day!!!
Isn't this "double-dipping"?

Stay away from TOYOTA RENT A CAR in Houston if you don't want to put up with their "calander day" foolishness!!!

#1 UPDATE Employee

You did not ask the right questions about a 24 hour period

AUTHOR: Laure - (U.S.A.)

I have worked for Enterprise and now currently work for Toyota. When you bill an insurance company it is there policy to bill on a calendar day billing. The rates on insurance are much much lower because of this. If you are paying for the rental then you need to tell the employee that. We can then change it. As far as getting paid twice for one day is how we make money. All rental companies are trained to do this. The more you rent the more you make. I think that there was not enough communication on which rate to charge. On a normal rate you should have paid between $40-$60 for a one day leisure rental. You came out the same.

YOUR LIFE COULD BE IN DANGER IF YOU EVER RENT A TOYOTA BECAUSE...

AUTHOR: Karl - (U.S.A.)

THERE ARE AIRBAGS that are not deploying when Toyota vehicles are in accidents, according to MANY customers who have Toyotas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Google this for proof- ENGINE SLUDGE, and go to the consumeraffairs website about Toyota Engine problems and click on 'Airbags' when you are there and read all of them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Then, Google this- SUIT: DEFECT REPORTS ALTERED TOYOTA PLANT, and read the Whistleblower Lawsuit about 'DEFECT REPORTS' being altered!!

Contact the Rent-a-Car Agency and let them know about the 'AIRBAGS' issue that Toyota is obviously COVERING-UP so their STOCK doesn't continue declining!!!!!!!!

Google this- YOUTUBE TOYOTA SEQUOIA DEFECT, and watch the video!!!!!!!!!!

Toyota is KNOWINGLY selling vehicles to Rent-a-Car agencies that COULD have DEFECTIVE AIRBAGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Spread the word on the WORLD WIDE WEB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

TOYOTA'S STOCK WILL GO BELOW $70 IN EARLY 2009!!!!!!!! You can BANK on it!!!

Thank you.

#3 Consumer Suggestion

What about getting rental car included in next insurance policy??

AUTHOR: Steven - (U.S.A.)

Next time you should consider getting car rental included in your insurance.

May seem like an unneeded rider until something like this happens. If you get the rider the insurance company covers it.

Is renting on a calander-day basis Double-dipping? Not if that is what your contract states.

AUTHOR: Friendly Help - (U.S.A.)

Do Hertz, Avis, etc. bill in 24-hour blocks? I remember that they do. I also remember that their per-24-hour charges can be rather high. But no matter. Renting a car is always expensive.

I had a former colleague buy the Washington DC Budget franchise years back. He has issues with people renting cars & not returning them. And you & I pay for it.

People are even more careless with rented cars that they are with their own cars! And you & I pay for it.

Next time, rent from Hertz or Avis: Problem solved.
