Buyer Beware! Toyota of Orlando does the old Bait and Switch Technique.

I called regarding a beautiful toyota online for a $1K less than retail per kelly blue book. I called talked to a "Dan", asked if the car was still available, he put me on hold and came back and said yes. I told him I would come the next day to take a look. I called again the next morning to make sure the car was still available, again I was told Yes!!!

So I proceed to drive 45 minutes to the dealership, asked for Dan, went inside, was told they would page him, waited and then was told he was with someone else. Funny since he had just called me 20 minutes prior to my arrival.

I went ahead and went outside with another sales person. We went to the car I saw online, the guy left to get the keys, came back w/o the keys, left again, came back with the keys. So at this point I'm pretty happy and ready to buy. We get in the car, start to drive out so I can get in and test it out. Then some guy comes out to get the mileage, weird, then another guy comes out and says it was sold already, then they try to get me to go look at other cars they have.

Mmmmm, I wonder why the same car is still available online. I know its the same because I printed the page. The old Bait and Switch, but guess what they didn't get my money, I walked away! Be smart don't go here!

Looks like its their MO

AUTHOR: r - ()

Toyota in Orlando pulled this very same tactic on us. We drove 2hrs to view a vehicle that they told us was available. When we arrived, we found the vehicle in the back being detailed post-sale for the buyer to pick up. The salesman, Lou, I had spoken to on the phone turned up and said it was sold, the buyer had spent the last two days getting a loan for it . Lou then tried to interest us in other vehicles. We said no and walked away annoyed about the whole thing.

Lou then called us that evening and the next morning. When we finally picked up, he claimed the sale had fallen through and was disappointed that we no longer wanted to look at the vehicle.

SmartKlassie, You can 'Google' this- CAR SALES: TRICKS OF THE TRADE- CONSUMER ALERT, and watch the video...

where Tori was SCAMMED at a car dealership.

The Ford dealership where Tori was scammed is owned by Sonic Automotive. Sonic is a publicly held company and they are the 3rd largest dealer network in America, operating about 150 dealerships throughout the USA.

Sonic Automotive owns several Toyota dealerships in the USA.

*Most Toyota dealerships in America thrive on DECEPTION & MANIPULATION when selling and leasing vehicles. It's the 'Toyota way' of doing business.

That kind of tactic is not legal..

AUTHOR: Ronny g - (USA)

...although many dealerships do this. They figure if you drive from far away and make the time to go there etc...that you are a serious buyer. Then they pull the "switch" when you get there.

However, there is also a chance they actually sold the car right before you got there, and simply did not remove the ad yet. That is not illegal, although granted  an inconvenience for you.

Here is a simple way to check. Call up again pretending to be another buyer and ask if that car is still there...if they say yes..concluded..Bait and switch. If they say "sorry the vehicle was sold already", then they are "legally" off the hook.

The primary form of this tactic is essentially them advertising something to "bait" you in with no intention of actually selling it to you. Then when you get there, they tell you it is already sold and .... "switch"... classic.
