In january for my son's 18th birthday purchased, on line, from tracfone.com a reconditioned tracfone. I entered the zip code as instructed to ensure that the phone I recieved was suitable for our "coverage area". When the phone arrived and my son tried to program it, and was unsucsessful, as was I, I called the company to report the problem.
I was told to send the phone in to the warehouse, and a replacement phone would be sent back that would work in our area.
At my own expense I fed-ex shipped the phone. And recieved a replacement phone-only it couldn't be programmed either, and was deemed unsuitable for our area by tracfone customer service personel. I was told to send the phone in, and another phone would be sent.
After seeing the disappointed look on my son's face twice, after the phones would not work, I refused and requested a refund.
I paid for the phone with my american express card. I was told to send all paperwork, etc.. back with the phone-which I did.
Then I began recieving numerous emails that they could not process the refund without the order number. DUH - I sent all the paperwork back. They called me at work, even aftter I told them not to. I contacted the BBB of FL, and after receiving numerous scathing emails stating that they couldn't do a thing without the order number, I informed them not to contact me again, and that I would only communicate through the BBB.
I kept receiving regular emails-and kept deleting them without reading them.
The company's response to the BBB that was mailed to me was that I had been asked to reply to their emails, and had failed on several occasions to do so. (How could I respond when I wasn't even opening them)?
In the time that has passed since my son's birthday in January, he has had a wreck in bad weather and totaled his car-and had to walk because he had no phone to call us with. (I would be happy to supply a copy of the accident report). And quite honestly I am VERY leery of doing anymore online buying to this very negative experience. It may not seem like alot of money to tracfone, but I have four son's- and the $62.00 could buy groceries, medicine, etc...
It just boggles my mind that even though tracfone has my name, credit card number, etc... that they still say they cannot do anything without the order number. In this day and age, and with the technology in this world, I find that surprising if not questionable.
My son is to start college this fall, (another reason I wanted him to have the phone), and going on six months since I ordered it, he still is phoneless-and I feel like dirt because I cannot get any satisfaction. I would like tracfone to be held responsible for their shoddy equipment and even more so for their very rude customer service tactics. I would appreciate any help you can give me.
