Tri County Humane Society (TCHS) did not honor our signed adoption contract. The contract clearly states that any pet adopted is the property of TCHS and must be returned to TCHS if the pet can no longer be kept for any reason. I attempted to return the pet to the shelter on behalf of an elderly family member who can longer care for the pet. The pet was refused by the front desk staff, who then proceeded to lay a guilt trip on me! They then told me it was my responsibility to find a new home for the pet, despite the fact that the contract clearly states that the pet cannot be given away to anyone or taken to another facility under the threat of legal action (and fees) by TCHS. To make a long story short, I finally found a facility, Broward County Humane Society, to accept the pet, even though they do not have a no-kill policy. Being forced to give up a beloved pet is difficult under the best of circumstances. TCHS did not handle this situation well - it is never acceptable to be rude. I am very upset with the fact that they did not honor the contract, and have gotten away with it! I just want others to be aware that their contract with TCHS will probably be not worth the paper it was printed on.
