I used the on line reservation to make a reservation for a 24 foot(large)truck for my in town move on Friday, September 30, 2005. Was told I would receive a call the next day confirming this. I didn't get a call so I called them and got a confirmed reservation with confirmation number.

Then I called the store where my perfered location was and told they had 2 of the trucks on the lot and there would be no problem with my reservation(note-i did this more than a week before) The day before my move she called and said there were NO trucks there at all and told me to call the 800 number. I did and they wanted me to dive over 300KM round trip to pick up a truck in Barrie, ON and pay for the KM's as well.

I told them off and what the hell am i to do now that i have no truck and why the hell do they even take reservations if they don't intend to honour them?? I told them to shove the reservation i better not be charged for the reservation. I wasn't charged but I had to borrow a friends pick up truck and make many trips and pay alot in gas(this was when it was really high)just to move. I should note that when the u-haul lady did call she offered me a truck for that day( the 28th)I said that nice but the closing date for my new house is on the 28th so I don't even have the keys yet.

I will never use this company or recommmend them to anyone. This is the second time i've had problems and from what I see on here they are going to problems with this comany FOREVER!

Yes! They lose reservations withouth apology!

AUTHOR: Jillian - (U.S.A.)

I rented in the Washington, DC area. The U-Haul website wasn't working, so I made a phone reservation. I too had to call for a confirmation number; they didn't call me back. When I reached the pick-up rental location, they had lost the reservation and at first insisted I didn't have one. I called U-Haul on my cell phone to confirm that I did indeed have one. The employees at the rental location were HORRIBLE--rude, unapologetic, and unhelpful.

We finally confirmed the reservation, but had to wait TWO HOURS for a truck. This extended my rental period beyond the time most U-Haul Drop off locations are opened. All the locations I went to were closed, and had no signs, places to park, or key drop offs. One was even closed permanently! I finally reached one with a sign directing me to a gas station. I went there, and the employee told me to park on the street. When I did, the meters were not operational, but they became operational at 8:00 am the next day. The employees didn't pick up the truck in time so THEY, not ME incurred a $25 parking ticket, for which U-Haul wants to charge me $80!! Read my Rip-Off Report on THAT experience so far...

Twice in a row same story

AUTHOR: Joe - (U.S.A.)

I had the same experience the last two times in row with these people. Both times, I ended up getting something to drive, but it took some crafty workmanship and illegally recorded phone calls to get it done.

I strongly suggest if you make a reservation, tape your conversation and make sure you get a response to a question that "am I 100% certain I will get a vehicle to use on the day/time I made my reservation" and play that back to them if you get the shaft going to pick it up.

I had to drive 30 miles further to get a vehicle, but I also insisted on a discount to cover the time and gas money it took to get there to pick it up. They did that.

You are better off renting directly from the biggest dealer you can find instead of the mom & pop place as well...and find one that's open on Sunday's ahead of time too just as a precaution...they will usually be the bigger ones with more options.
