Sent family heirloom crystal glass to sister.  Over-packed for protection. marked fragile on outside of boxes.  When she received them she described the contents as being crushed, smashed, and to her intentionally destroyed.

I had insured the packages and the first thing UPS did was "interrogate" her as if she had committed the crime of the century.  Rude, obnoxious, overbearing.  Even after several call UPS still took the position that I, the sender was at fault and they had no culpability.  Typical insurance tactic;  deny; deny; deny until you go away.

UPS activity

AUTHOR: scammed43 - (United States of America)

UPS did ask to view the damaged items.  However they did not show up to inspect even after numerous calls for them to do so in a two week period.

Ask for the document that describes the claim results.

AUTHOR: Raymond M. - (USA)

Obviously, the shipping industry has packaging guidelines. If those did not exist, claims would run rampant and fraud would become easy. Ask for the claim results to be faxed or emailed to you. It will describe why the claim was approved or disapproved. Those packaging guidelines are similar with all carriers and can be found on their respective websites. Common packaging faults are used or underrated shipping boxes, paper padding, items against carton wall, etc. The handling for carriers is no better or worse than one another. Ask for a scheduled tour of any facility for any carrier. You might be surprised at what you see.

Did UPS ask to examine the packaging?

AUTHOR: Ken - (USA)

That's how they determine if the packaging is sufficient and proper.

Was the box crushed, or just the contents?

BTW, how did she (or you) know they "drop kicked" the package and intentionally destroyed it?

That would seem to just cause them trouble and wouldn't be in their best interest.

No, I DON'T work for UPS.
