I didn't receive a credit card statement for the previous month.  Then THIS month's statement arrives with late fees and interest.  I asked them to remove the fees.  They refused.  I canceled my account.  I think everyone else with a US Bank credit card account would be wise to do the same.  Don't let them rip you off!

Pathetic excuse.

AUTHOR: I am the law - (USA)

Yet another case of irresponsible money management....

First off, I've been with this bank for over a decade and ALWAYS gotten my statements. But, on the off chance it was lost in the mail or whatever, it is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to make sure your bills are paid. Just because you didn't get that little piece of paper in the mail doesn't mean your payment isn't due.

And please don't use the "I had no way to check what my payment should be" excuse. It just doesn't hold water. Do you have access to a phone? Can you not dial it? How about a computer with internet access? Obviously, if you're filing a ROR, you should be intelligent enough to check your credit card balance online.

I feel like this should be common sense, but I guess it's not common anymore.

Righteous is correct

AUTHOR: Flynrider - (USA)

" 99.9% of them are REQUIRED to send this via either postal or electronic. Its at YOUR option. Its by no means a "Courtesy".  "

Absolutely correct.   I worded that very badly.  They are required to send a statement.  What I was getting at is that no bank ties on time payments to your receiving a statement.  If you didn't get the statement, they'll be happy to charge you a late fee and send you a replacement statement.

Credit rights

AUTHOR: Righteous1 - (USA)

First:
They are legally to provide you with a statement each month or per the terms set forth in the card agreement. 99.9% of them are REQUIRED to send this via either postal or electronic. Its at YOUR option. Its by no means a "Courtesy". They can though charge you for paper statements...that is how they gain revenue now that the Feds regulate the credit industry guidelines.
Secondly, as the former poster mentioned , why aren't you sending in at least a minimum payment or contacting them over the phone to get your minimum balance due and the date? You have internet access so surely you have phone or online access? Sorry but I feel little compassion in this day and age for a poster to cry foul when there are resources available to gain access to this information. No Judge is going to give you a free pass when your account is closed and a judgement is in favor of the credit industry because you "claim" to have not seen the statement. You have the resources , use them. I pay twice a month so I do not get snared by the late fees....then when I do get the statement I review it for any errors or unknown charges. This allows me to dispute in accordance with the credit card agreement. ANd just so you know.  cancelling your card does not dismiss any outstanding balances...Its just lowered your FICO score for abrupt closing and left you to pay the full balance due if US Bank so chooses to come back at you. You did more harm to yourself in the long run.All because you didnt want to pick up the phone or jump online to get your statement.

Paper or electronic.

AUTHOR: Flynrider - (USA)

If you're talking about a mailed paper statement, that's par for the course for credit card issuers.   There's no guarantee that the postal service will get it right every time.   You need to be aware of when your monthly payment is due.

This is one of the reasons I went to electronic statements.  I got bit several times when I relied on paper statements to show up in the mail and they didn't (various banks).  Electronic delivery seems much more reliable.  I've also set up reminders on my PC's calendar.

What you're complaining about applies to just about any CC issuing bank.  Not just US Bank.  They will all tell you that statements are provided as a courtesy, but that your payments are due on time each month, whether you received a statement or not.

Keep that in mind for your next credit card account.
