US Best Repairs is a scam. They called me up one day offering to pay me 40 dollars for mowing lawns.

At first, all the houses they sent me to had people inside. This was rather aggravating as these houses were far away. US Best Repairs refused to refund me for the costs of gas after sending me to these same houses on multiple occasions. When I finally got to a few houses that didnt have people living there, I started submitting estimates for some of the repairs and maintenance. Of course, none of these estimates were approved.

After doing about 9,000 of work for this company, the company stopped taking my calls when it was time to collect. Mark Zaverl is a scam artist.

Very Few Problems

AUTHOR: David - ()

I've contracted with several property preservation companies, and have found that US Best Repairs is by far the best client that I've contracted with so far.

Of course there will always be problems in any industry, because there are humans in every industry.... even at US Best Repairs. I understand the frustration at times with certain state coordinators, but if you are willing to work with them most issues are easily resolved. Also if you are willing correct errors and recognize that you make mistakes too, you will find that your relationships with clients will be much smoother and will clients begin to look to you as the contractor that they can rely on to solve problems for them; which should be why you are in business.

Too many contractors fail to understand the value that they can build with clients and they waste time and effort trying to "dig" at their clients. In other words, if customer satisfaction is not your focus, then you need to find a regular job because you are doomed to fail. The sense of entitlement displayed by so many people today completely reduces their chances of success in business, especially for contractors.

There are many successful property preservation contractors that service multiple clients, and the secret to success for them is that they find ways to become invaluable assets to their clients, not problem contractors. Also they understand that they are not employees and accept the fact that they have to be the solution to problems, not the cause of them, unlike the mentality of many employees, who just want to collect a pay check.

I have had a few problems with US Best Repairs in the past, but we, US Best Repairs and my company. worked them out to both our companies satifaction. They are not difficult at all to work with, just be willing to communicate in a respectful manner and always look for solutions, not problems. I aslo have found that some of their employees are not quite up to speed on construction repairs and cost but, I've found that a profesional and respectful aproach to educating them works very well. This aproach only works because we have proven to be an invaluable asset to them over time, and they know that they can count on us to deliver.

In essence, we all face the same problems with clients, but your way of aproaching issues can make or break your company. The choice is and has always been yours.

U.S Best Repairs doesn't pay

AUTHOR: Lewis - (United States of America)

They paid pretty good in the beginning. We went through about the same thing you did. Called and asked if we wanted work. In the beginning they paid in their 5 to 10 days. Then they started short paying on different work orders. Said pictures were missing that were there. Sent work orders with due dates that were past and said it was OK they just need the work done, and then said we were late. I don't know what else you would call that but a con. I had the state coordinator say "just make it look like it was done, but you didn't hear that from me".

Another state coordinator said he would give extra for a trash out we were working on then when everything was turned in he said we were late and not getting anything. After fighting with him we were able to get about a third of the entire amount. That one made different promises then didn't come through on any of it. He would call screaming and on several occasions, and he was way off on his claims. Gave us 27 work orders, told me to just try' and don't worry about what we can't get to. Drive by some of them and just say you are hearing sounds coming from inside. These work orders were from one side of the state to the other.

One of them called and was really shitty and kept saying "why didn't you winterize the property". My comment to him was why don't you look at the pictures. If you looked at the pictures, you would know why we didn't. There was nothing there to winterize, just a shell of a house. We couldn't even hardly tell where the kitchen or one of the bathrooms were located in the house. The other bathroom was destroyed. There was no plumbing or wiring left in the basement. What an idiot, half the people that work there have no clue how to do what we do. Most of them don't know how to do anything in construction type work. They just read and re write into the orders they submit to us sub contractors.

Those of us who need to earn more money, are vulnerable, they use that to their advantage. The thing is they don't care who they harm, or how much money you put into they property. If you just spent the last few dollars to get the work done it doesn't matter to them. Then it just depends who looks at what you submitted that gets your pay amount. Most of them don't know anything about construction, just paper pushers.

I've been talking to a legal secretary, to see what the cost to sue is going to be, and how much their contract will hold up when they didn't even follow it. They never gave us a chance ( their "48 hrs" to rebut) to prove the work was done or re submit pictures The amount to sue from small claims isn't enough to cover even a fifth of what they owe. We are looking for other companies or individuals that would possibly like to go in together and go after U.S. Best.

If interested please email me at (((email redacted)))

My experience

AUTHOR: jason - (United States of America)

I have been in out of preservation work for fifteen years and not seeing a light at the end of the tunnel. On the subject of whether or not US Best pays they do. Are they a scam? I believe so.

I did four work orders for them. All intials.

1st Luckily the front door was nailed shut by city and back door was boarded and nailed. Got paid to put hinges on doors. There was a ton of trash yes trash not personal property but had bid it for personal property.

2nd Lock change front door $40 bucks and two hours of phone time.

3rd same as above

4th I knew better this time. I got BofA and the Realtor to both deem it trash and got a nice cleanout out of it.  It took amonth to get paid though because they we worried BofA wouldnt pay my ass it was approved I had the confirmation number.

After these I didnt get a call for months. Gee wonder why? Finally got a call asking if I could take some pictures for some bids. I told him I can asked if  I  could bid as well. He said hed call back. Work orders cancelled.

Like the guy above I believe they are using your bids to get paid by bank and calling around to get the work done cheaper. The same thing with initials. Companies like this would rather pay in liquor bottles than actual cash. Im a Realtor as well and we get BofA as corporate listings and all of the agents have complained about US Best P and P crews.

inaccurate

AUTHOR: thisguy - (United States of America)

I used to work for BAC Field Services where US Best was one of our contractors. it seems like your frustration is with their client and not them. The nationals are not responsible for approving bids nor are they responsible for vacancy verifications. All they do is assign work orders according to what they receive from their client. If BAC said it was vacant, then that's what they have to assume. It seems to me that you are not very familiar with the way property preservation works.

To Arms..To Arms..The White Palace Is Being Attacked...And They Have Sent A "FOOL" To Defend It..

AUTHOR: Lache pas la patate - (United States of America)

You know fool, I read your little story above...and it almost brought me to tears, with him wanting you back "with open arms", it was like a love story, a fairy tale, and you two lived happily ever after; and even now you say you don't work for them but you defend them..how sweet.

Now real world fool, I could give you some examples to show that mine is bigger than yours..isn't that what you said or was it that (YOU THINK) you've been doing this longer than me..same thing, but you would only go from cubical to cubical at the "Palace" to get the answers.

.so let me say this to all the Newbees being told all the sweet nothings, "BEWARE" and be on your toes, tell your contractor friends to be ready for that recruiting phone call, with all the sweet nothings to get you to sign up, you see how far they will go on here with the fairy tales, wait till you hear them for yourself and I hope you don't lose too much money in the process.

I've seen companies like this come and go over the years, they have just refined it a bit.

You're full of s**t.....

AUTHOR: WC1 - (United States of America)

I been in business since before you, the swamp people and this business was so popular. Mark and US Best are one of the very few companies that still have integrity. I can give a damn who you say you are at the end the facts are there, you probably don't work for them no more, because you and the rest of idiots out there think that showing up to a property and faking pictures it's enough to charge for the work or you're the classic guy that cuts corners right and left and always has an excuse.

Anyway, USBest are plain and simple the best out there.

3 Cheers for US Best....Don't Be Fooled

AUTHOR: Lache pas la patate - (United States of America)

The yahoo who filed the complaint is either the competition or just doesn't have a clue... I've been doing this a long time so Newbees understand this...you are being romanced in how great US Best is..you'll find out soon enough who they really are...they have the best playbook in making money at your expense..but not at first. They'll let you make a little money first till it's ( The 3 cups and the ball ) trick time.

Let's say a sub-contractor, or who they call a vendor, goes out and bid a job for $100 and a month later it comes back approved, instead of sending that contractor who made the bid of $100, they'll send another contractor with the work order for $50, guess who gets to keep the other $50 plus the override.

Now, do I have proof that this is done, Nope, but common sense tells me this,

(!) go back and check on what I have bid on

 (2) look at their personnel turnover, if those contractors were so valuable then why would they leave?

 answer- they figured it out

U.S. Best one of the best

AUTHOR: Art71418 - (United States of America)

I am a sub contractor for U.S. Best Repairs in the state of Louisiana and my experience is that they pay what they say they will and they pay it on time. They are one of the fastest paying in the industry, 2 weeks, compared to some who take 90+ days.

I would reccomend them to anyone. Obviously the guy who filed the complaint did not do what he was supposed to do or he would have gotten paid. They even pay mileage when I go beyond my area to help them out with a job.

I hope to have a long relationship with them.

US Best is by far one of the really good companies to work with in the Industry

AUTHOR: WC1 - (United States of America)

For those Contractors out there that have the big loud mouth stating they been ripped off by Mark and Company; I really doubt it and I personally can tell you that I have met with Mark himself and for been a business man with that size of business and the importance he plays in the reactivation of the American economy, he's a pretty cool down to earth person. I went to see him in 2010 because I burned my bridges with him and his staff in a phone call where I lost my cool, and he received me with open arms and re-established our relationship, he even ask if I was interested in jumping back in to the company to grab a Vendor Packet, he made it pretty clear, he's a man that builds bridges and not walls and I have to agree. Even though I didn't filled that packet and work with him again I know his company operations and the fact that they pay faster than anyone else even Premiere Asset; and I can tell you this, US Best is the company that once an order is accepted they pay their order no matter what.

I worked for Mico and US Best as the preferred vendor in the entire state of AZ in the early stages of US Best and we got paid to the last penny. I will always remember this as one of the best times of my life.

US best is not a scam.

AUTHOR: The Thang - (United States of America)

according to my experience with us best, they are not a scam. for the short amount of time that I've worked with them, they pay on time, communicate very efficiently with their sub "ME", and extremely/overly organize, yes i said extremely/overly because that is the reason i bale out from the company. let me lay out the pro and con so the company and other can see what i think as a person who used to work for them.

PRO:
-very efficient and organize about work order (easy for me to set my scedule)
-set dead line and keep up with them
-have info man to talk to and very helpful (Julio Salinas) I believe Julio also assign work order.
-Pay is on time/on schedule.

CON:
-some time have small W.O. not worth the trip
-almost dead slow in cold season (the season i did work with US best)
-to much side work requirement that waist my time on job sight Like;
*calling bank for verification and picture sending (necessary, but it waisted so much time for a
guy trying to get things done NOT by the hour).
*require detail proven pic of all and everything serviced. (necessary, but its still a pain for us
human only have 2 hand to do work)

Besides the 3rd item of the CON, i enjoy working for USbest during the short amount of time. if USbest found a short cut around this problem, i would kill to work for them.

Thanks for reading.

#13 UPDATE EX-employee responds

RE: US Best Repairs

AUTHOR: Mango - (U.S.A.)

As a preservation contractor for the past 7 years, I can tell the person that wrote filed this complaint doesn't have a clue how this business works.

I was a contractor for US Best Repairs ( and 9 other Preservation Companies) and I can tell anyone who cares to listen that US Best Repairs is not known to not pay their contractors, in fact in the whole time I've been in this business I'm yet to work for anyone who is as fast paying their contractors as they are. The problem with this guy is that he's a rookie and has no idea how the business works, you're an indepented contractor ( Read your contract) you are responsible for your own expences, if you were sent to a property and it was occupied, they will pay you ( providing that you took photos) a trip charge. I never had any problems ( and I don't know of any other contractor who did) being paid. The fact that you asked them for gas money only proves you're a shmuck and don't have any business sense.

I don't work for US Best anymore and I'm sure they don't need me to come to their defense, but everything this guy claims sounds like someone who's broke and doesn't have a clue about this business and that's fine, what isn't fine is this clownd trying trash an honest company due to his own ignorance.

#14 REBUTTAL Owner of company

John G. rebuttal

AUTHOR: Tyler Drew - (U.S.A.)

US Best Repair Service, Inc. shows no record of a John G. employed by our company in the city of Mission Viejo, nor any company located in Mission Viejo. As a local company we take non-payment very seriously, and we would be happy to speak to the person who filed this report and pay them in full if the work has been justified.

However, neither Mark nor myself are familiar with this person, and accounting has no record of a John G. However, as John has noted, he has our contact information. I would be happy to discuss the issue and resolve any problems he may have. He may reach me on my direct line at 714-599-7394.

As far as estimates are concerned, it is not within our power to approve every estimate. Multiple estimates are always used, and it is possible that we simply had a lower price, or the work was not approved by our clients. I am sorry he feels this way, but that is something that is not under our control.
