"David" called me 35 times in the last two days to inform me I will be served papers on a pay day loan if I don't pay 750.00 and then it changed the second day to 810.00.  I called my lawyers and they said it was a scam.  What scares me is they have my social security number.  I was advised to change my SS#.
I decided to call their bluff and ask if I could send a money order or a cashiers check and to please give me an address.  "David" informed me that I had to purchase a prepaid card and fax the info to them so they could get the money from the card.  I told "David" that they were scamming me and several people in my area were being scammed which I found out from the sheriff's dept.  "David" hung up three times on me...the laugh is on him.  I blocked the number from my phone.  Is there someone out there that can do something about these scammers?  I get these calls once a month.  Is  there someone who can get this out to the public, ie newspapers, tv networks and by word of mouth.  I would hate to know how many senior citizens out there believe they might owe this money and paying it.  Shame on you.

Some advice against these scammers

AUTHOR: Anony Moose - (United States of America)

Yes they are definitely a scam.  Do not give them any money.   The fact they have your SSN is likely due to some company you've done business with didn't have adequate security.  The best thing you can do is to protect yourself by putting a permanent fraud alert on your credit file.  You can typically sign up for a service with someone like Equifax or do it manually which will require a bit more effort - calls, writting letters, etc.   The fraud alert should prevent anyone from opening a new line of credit in your name.  I'd make it a habit to monitor your credit file going forward as well.  Good for you for blocking their # - best way is to not get the calls at all.   I'd also file a police report and a report with the FCC and FTC on the phone # they are using.
