Today, Feb. 14, 2014, I was called 3 times in a row by a company claiming to represent the "Department of Crime Prevention". They stated I was being sued by a payday loan company, and when I demanded to know the name, they finally stated "USA Lending".
They went on to state that unless I paid $698 today, the lawsuit would go through, as this "USA Lending" place had supposedly made several efforts to collect the money owed since mid-January. I finally got out of them that the original amount supposedly borrowed was "somewhere between $300-$400, but they weren't for sure".
First of all, I am on SS Disability, and have been for 13 years, so I would have no way to even obtain a payday loan. Secondly, I was in Colorado the entire month of January 2014, so there would have been no way for me to even have tried to obtain a payday loan, as there was no computer nor internet where I stayed. Lastly, I just filed for Chapter 7 Bankruptcy in December 2013, so no one is going to give me a loan until the bankruptcy is formally discharged.
After calling "Ripoff Report" and also reading the name "Dept of Crime Prevention" was one of the names included in the rip-offs, I called immediately and was told to file a report ASAP. The person that called was from India, another tell-tale sign that it was a rip-off, per the prior cases involving this scam, and per the person I spoke to at Ripoff Report.
They threatened me that I would be held liable for the entire amount plus additional interest, court costs, and attorney fees unless I paid today, and I told them that I never borrowed any money, so I was not liable for paying any money back.
