A majority of the USIS workforce are either entry level investigators just out of college with no experience or retirees working as sub contractors;as these forms of labor are the cheapest. The pay scale is low. They encourage you to make up for the overtime pay they will not pay you by inflating your mileage expense which either the government pays or USIS can write off as operating expense. To meet company requirements on productivity it would take 60 to 80 hours a week in labor but USIS in most cases will not allow you to claim overtime. I worked my first year between 60 to 80 hours with no overtime.I talked to my trainer and they said that is what you do in order to learn the job. Later I was allowed overtime at certain times when the company could afford it and company mandated overtime in other instances. All the while you had to produce the same quantity of work even when working alleged 40 hours weeks. As time progressed company policy has been altered to provide less thorough background checks in order to complete more cases so USIS can then get paid by the Federal government. These factors lead to a hostile work environment where you are supposedly working for national security but in essence they are telling you just to do the minimum to get the case closed. When concerns are voiced on pay issues, overtime issues, promotion issues you become targeted for dismissal. They Fire at Will as I have known multiple investigators that this has happenned to as well as numerous investigators who have quit. This is a company that preaches ethics but has none of their own. The Department of Labor has sued them numerous times and I believe there is a case pending currently.
Ask yourself if this is a company that should have any involvement with national security and the safety of the country when they do not take care of their own employees and they cut corners on cases to speed their own payment. They do not have a national security interest but rather a maximized profit interest.
