The pen pal ban went into effect in 2003, so it wasn't "just recently". It went into effect because inmates were advertising to people who are desperate, lonely and easily manipulated in order to get money and other things from them.

If these inmates have written to you, how do you know about their 180 day mail suspension? Did you know that at no time are inmates not allowed to send or recieve mail? The claim that any inmate has not been allowed to send or recieve mail is a total lie.

Inmates on Death Row are considered Maximum Management inmates, which means they are housed in single cells alone. When "punished" for rule violations, they are not put into a "hole". They lose gain time, which is time taken off their sentence for good behavior, and get a certain amount of time of suspended priviledges based on their rule violation. They spend this time in their own cells. The only time an inmate is put in a "hole" like situation is when a general population inmate violates a rule that earns them time in a single cell, alone, with suspended priviledges. Death Row is not open population.

By the way, you can only be sentenced to death row in Florida if you commit capital murder. If you think it's too harsh that inmates not be allowed to advertise for pen pals (obviously the DOC could prove the inmates given 30 days DC time were advertising), try writing to Dwight. Eaglin, Steven Smith or Michael Jones. Ask them about how they murdered Darla Lathrem while they were in prison trying to escape.

They killed her in an escape attempt. All they had to do was lock her in a mop closet, but they killed her with a sledge hammer. I guess they deserve pen pals, too, but I don't think it's too harsh that they can't advertise for any. Boo h*o.

I took a quick peep at the Kentucky website for death row inmates and low and behold! They are all murderers!! Can you imagine my shock? Please - these "people" lost every single right due to them when they pulled that trigger. I suggest you take a long, hard look at your priorities or seek help at the nearest Mental Health facility.

Yes sir, deprived of their right to a penpal. If I had two different "inmates" write you. I'd wonder who's list are you on or you must be very popular at the prison. Notice the penpal and "loved one" used togeather. This person is being used. Don't know if she knows it or not.

I'm not sure exactly what the rip off is here, or the specifice injustice you feel has been done to these prisoners, or what your relationship is to them.

BUT....Keep in mind that DEATH ROW inmates are almost always murderers. So their victims cannot contact friends or family either, because they are DEAD!

Prisoners have far too many rights and privleges as it is. You won't see my heart bleed for any of them.

And just be thankful that I am not a Governor or the President.

Our prison population is way out of control because many do not see it as punishment or rehabilitation. They see it as a lifestyle that is passed down through generations of families.
