I worked for Kerry Laughman of United American Insurance, in July 2008. I spoke to another associate before I came in and attended a presentation of the company and what they do. From what I was told the position was for a receptionist, and that is what I came for. I made coffee, answered the phone, and did other duties a receptionist would do. The pay was $8.00 per hour and the position was open because the current receptionist was transitioning into an agent. The 2nd day I came in, he tells me I need to become an agent to continue to work there. I made it very clear on the phone and on day one, I had no interest in becoming an insurance agent, and would just like to continue working as a receptionist for now. He then goes into a lecture about how he needs people who don't want to work for $8.00 per hour the rest of their lives, and need to make real money. I signed paperwork giving my address and information and he told me the check would be there in 2 weeks. It never showed. I've contacted him several times at the given address to find the number getting disconnected, then to find a sign in the office saying it was for rent. Eventually I contacted him through the corporate number and he said he'd send me a check or pay me cash, and he never did.
