The financial claims of United American are in my opinion pure fiction. In an email broadcast John Gore, VP claims first year earnings of $100,000. Won't happen.
When the manager "interviews" you they will claim first year earnings of $75,000 to $100,000. The problem is they never made that as first year agents and can't introduce you to anyone who did.

Ask the manager for a copy of their first year agent 1099. Won't happen.

In my opinion UA is all about "churn and burn". Of the thousands of people they interview and hire only a handful are even around after a few months.
Performance is not rewarded. Promotion is based on your ability to kiss the bosses behind not on your ability to sell.

Almost none of the managers were ever top sales people. Top salespeople are seldom promoted because the branch needs the numbers.

The scheme at UA is to do just enough and kiss enough butt to get promoted to Unit Manager and then Branch Manager.

Problem now is their are almost no local Branch slots so you will be moving. Oops, did they forget to tell you that.

They will also forget to mention that any residual you may have coming to you vanishes when you leave the company. They als don't like to discuss vesting. It takes 12-20 years to vest at UA.

The product? In FL the medicare product is $50 to $80 more than any other.

The underage health product is terrible as anyone you sell it to will soon tell you.

Believe little of what any UA manager tells you.

honesty from you?

AUTHOR: Donald - (U.S.A.)

off the backs of agents? I am an agent and made Presidents Club and Chairmans Club on more than one company the last 2 years. Got a call from someone telling me that my personal sales this year might exceed your branch. Don't know. Don't care.

I sell. Proud of it. You?????? Oh, yeah, back in 93 in the dead of winter treking thru the 3 foot snow across the mountains.......

Have you told your agents what you make from their efforts? Explained vesting? Explained where the money goes when they leave? Told the truth about recruiting bonuses? Who shares in that pot? contests with 1099's.

Lude behavior? Gee, a guy misses one meeting and the stories.............

You have me confused with another old friend of yours and I'll call him tomorrow and send your love. He misses you so, as do we all, NOT.

Personally I liked some of the other fictional stories you made up a lot better. After all, you've had all this time to work on your excuses for not living up to your commitments in the first place. The ones you made in person with witnesses and in writing. You remember those, don't you?

I would expect something a lot more creative. Maybe not.

United American financial claims

AUTHOR: Donald - (U.S.A.)

hundreds, possibly thousands of people read this site and you are proclaiming to them that as a first year agent you are the ONE. Congratulations.

you are the ONE out of all the thousands recruited who made $100K in your first 12 months as an agent.

ONE in thousands isn't very good BUT IF you are the one then you will have no problem proving it.

NAME
ADDRESS
contact info so that anyone considering UA can contact you to get written authorization to verify your claims through the company.

if you have followed this thread then you know that the issue is Branch Managers making financial claims that no one can verify.

ONE person out of thousands doesn't justify the claim. it does justify managers saying "there is ONE guy who made ..." That would be legit.

it's easy to check on as a friend of mine has a couple years of back issues of VISION and your name would definitely be in the Top 20 agents. Permission to contact UA Payroll would definitely prove it.

SO - send your info and I will check and if it is so that you are the ONE I will be the frist to tell people that George, Tom, Sally, whoever... is the ONE that those managers are talking about

BECAUSE as they have admitted on this thread none of them did it.

P.S. 30% ?? that means you are selling the old HSXC stuff not the new GSP stuff. interesting.

P.P.S. A hot dog first year agent making $100K would be moving a lot of product and definitely attracting the attention of corporate. How did you keep from getting promoted?

I work for united American for over 2 years now

AUTHOR: Forrest - (U.S.A.)

One word will make you 100k a year at UAI, "ACTIVITY".

I made 118k my first year and should double that this year.

I agree, in insurance it is hard to make 100k if you are not having a large amount of activity.

It takes 250 contacts a week, Phone, leads, walkins, networking, etc, to make 100k in any sells field.

20%-75% commissions on products is great but not going out and making it happen will leave you making less than 30k a year every time.

It is sad that the comments on this website will keep a young, ambitious person from joining our great organization.

I was lucky I was used to making 6 figures already and there was no room for me to fail.

Please people think of it this way allot of people succeed with our company and if you didn't I am sorry but what good does it do you to bash a company and dissuade people from going into insurance sells.

Anyone else do the math if you make 30% of each sell on average you have to sell 350k of business (taking in account some will fall off) to make 100k your first year.
At 3000 dollars per sale (Anual Premium) that is 10 sales per month or 2.5 a week.
I sold 14 my first month and made 8000.00 plus.

Yes it was hard and yes I worked my butt off. It was worth it I worked 48 hours a week and didn't quit each week till something was sold. That takes dedication and if you ever read "The Stragest Secret..." by Earl Nightengale, you would know that only 5% of the people have that kind of dedication.

I am one of those few and you could be one to if you just tell yourself that no matter what someone says it is up to you to make a difference.

United American income claims

AUTHOR: Donald - (U.S.A.)

you seem confused.

Your VP sends out a letter that says first year agents make $100,000, that's first year agents.

Your manager tells people $75-100K

You admit that as an agent you only made $33K in six months which means mayber $66K in a yea if you make it as an agent for a year BUT now your a manager and WHAT do you tell agents they will make first year?

You can't tell them $75K because you didn't.

You say you have an agent that made $51K last year. Where I live tha isn't $75K - it's about $24,000 short or over $2,000 a month which is more than a housepayment.

SO - who is misleading people? Who makes the claims that by your own statements don't seem to be true? WHY do they tell people something that you have said is not valid?

Why no tell peple the truth? Why not explain Vesting? Why not explain what happens to that check if you leave the coompany tomorrow? Why not tell them why the company doesn't provide you health insurance?

My sales ability? Come January we will both get 1099's - let's compare.

Let's compare who sold more units in 2007 - you or me. Let's compare who made the most in dollars.

You won't even be close to me. I doubt that your entire Unit would be close.

You have missed the entire point of this.

Promises were made. By your own statements they aren't kept in LA any better than in FL

As for me, I am blessed that I can offer the public the best plans available from the best companies at the best prices and as an Independent Agent (not a manager) I do that every day. My clients select from all the best what is best for them, not what is best for me.

I serve the public, not some manager.

I am rewarded based on my ability to serve that public and I do it well. I do it with a passion that if you are ever in Orlando, come by and I will explain it to you.

I serve my friends and neighbors and daily get referrals and calls from those I have helped protect.

It is a fun, rewarding life. My only regret is that I didn't come to it sooner.

In response, I am on track for over 100k, and there is another agent in our office that made over that last year. Our average agent in our office made 51k last year, so maybe you just weren't cut out for the sales business. Take care of your customers, and the rest will fall into place.

United American income claims

AUTHOR: Donald - (U.S.A.)

You work in the home office and you don't sell. It figures.

This means you have no clue because you have never experienced up close and personal how your company really works in the field. Stories from your cousin about way back when when they sold MedSupps have no relevancy to the environment today.

I prefer to deal in facts not stories.

FACT - this week the Regional Manager for CFL showed up to do recruiting. He told applicants that agents could make $50-60K first year. Funny because your VP claimed $100K in a email blast and the Branch Managers tell people $75-100K even though I don't know one in FL who did that as an agent their first 12 months. Who is telling the truth? Can they produce any of these people?

FACT - Your company produces a monthly magazine called VISION. It lists the TOP 20 agents in the country. There is no FL agent in the TOP 20. If you look at the yearly sales of number 20 and project it through the end of the year then multiply by 24% commission - OOPS _ it means no one in FL will make that money this year

FACT - provide us with the company policy, written criteria for promotion to Unit Manager and Branch Manager. You can't. I tried to get it. I was told personally by the President of the company that I could be the #1 agent in the company for the next 5 years and would not be promoted unless my manager wanted it. Pucker up!

I was told by my Unit Manager that performance would not get me promoted - in front of witnesses. pucker again!!

FACT - who gets promoted?

Miami - the man had the highest CLOB (cancellation) rate in the company as an agent, was promoted to Branch Manager in Miami and is now, less than 2 years, GONE

Orlando - woman has no sales experience, no sales management experience, walks into managers office and in 30 days with no appreciable sales is promoted to Unit Manager and 18 months later Branch Manager. Her sales this year are off double digit percentage from last year.

Orlando - Woman similar to above promoted to Unit Manager in 60 days. 12 months later promoted to Branch Manager. Branch closed in less than 90 days

Orlando - man walks into office. Promoted to Unit Manager in 60 days and Branch in 8 months. No prior experience. Major qualification? Brother in law

Orlando - Branch Manager states in meeting that no one will be promoted who has a zero week more than twice a quarter. Less than 30 days later promotes woman to Unit then Branch who was zero 6 of 12 weeks preceding promotion.

Orlando - Unit Manager is sent into Insurance Agency to threaten people there and tells 6 witnesses how wonderful his Branch Manager is. 6 months later he quits after failing to be promoted.

Orlando - on Monday Branch Manager tells salesperson he is #18 on list of people to ever get a promotion. On Tuesday man quits. On Wednesday after getting trained on an Independent product manager calls and offers him promotion.

UA Branch Managers have a level of authority unheard of for a middle manager. If you had ever worked at Branch level you would have seen it.

I can go on and on.

You are corresponding with someone who has the facts, dates, times, etc, etc.

Sales is not fair. It's hard work. Getting promoted and making money at it is even harder BUT when you spend 2 years in an environment where the workers are stuck working and the quasi-qualified move forward while senior management turns a blind eye it is agravating.

When managers stand up in meetings and make income claims, make promotion claims, then they should be able to clearly show that this is a real possibility. Name names, show numbers, etc.

Your company has just recently put a Regional Manager structure in place to deal with some of the issues. 3 years ago you could not even move from one Branch to another now you can. Why? The company lost too many good people by restricting them.

You work at UA? Ask HR why your group health insurance comes from somewhere else?

Financial Reports Not a Scam

AUTHOR: Tiredofwhining23 - (U.S.A.)

I work for United American Insurance Company at out home office. I also have friends that have been agents with United American Insurance company for many years. Some of them I have known since I was a child. It is not true that success at United American is based solely on whos behind you kiss.

Although I do not know what your personal experience may have been, that is not this case with all branch offices. My uncle was a very successful agent. As have many others. As with any job in sales, you have to be able to sell the product. It does not sell itself. In my own personal experience, the people that I have seen promoted, not only as agents, but in the home office as well, have deserved their position. Maybe the reason you think that the only people that are successful are the brown nosers is because they are the more personable people. More personable people not only are better with their fellow employees IE their boss but also more personable with their customers.

If you were one of the agents that would sell a policy and then no one would hear from you ever again, then I am sorry but you didn't deserve that earning potential. You aren't just handed your money and told to have fun with it. It takes talent. I am not a sales person, and never have been. So, I don't sell. I suggest you do the same.

United American income claims

AUTHOR: Donald - (U.S.A.)

You are right - it isn't 1992

The competition in Medicare is far tougher today than 15 years ago when your company was one of the leaders.

TODAY - your plans sell for 25-50% more than the competition even though the government says that a C plan is a C plan

That is why an audit of your branch will probably show that Medicare Supplement sales today on a dollar and unit bsis are far below even 5 years ago. If you take out you High Deductible F plan then the numbers are probably even worse.

You continue to avoid the facts.

FACT - you, your managers stand in your offices and claim $75-100K first year agent.

FACT - Your Vice President circulated an email stating $100K first year agent income.

If it is possible for a first year agent in your office selling the current product mix to make that kind of money then produce the proof. If not tell agents the truth.

Most Branch Managers have dropped back to a claim of $50-75K. That was doable when I was there but times and competition have changed in the last few years so I can't verify if a first year agent can do even that.

My short time in the Insurance business has taught me two things above all - VERIFY all claims. If a company will not produce, in writing, the things they tell you then odds are there is a problem.

Two - sign nothing until you get that proof.

As for my wife. Why you now choose to attack my wife I know not but you and I both know this -

My wife never worked for you
My wife never worked for UA
My wife is not now and never has been appointed to UA

P.S. I wish your wife and children good health and happiness.

Don:

You are right I did not make 75k in 1992 selling $89 medicare supps in Indiana. I made 43k the first year and 63k the second.

Now let's see if I do the math. Premiums have pretty much doubled in 15 years not unusual. SOOOOOO that would mean if this were my first year I would make 86k and 126k the second year. HMMMMMMM..

OH and volume has tripled.

Now let's see WHO WAS IT THAT YOU PROMOTED TO AN AFFORDABLE ONE AGENCY?

WHOM IS WAITING ON WHOM TO RESPOND TO THE QUESTIONS?

Oh by the way isn't your wife appointed with UNITED AMERICAN?

nice try but you are wrong

AUTHOR: Donald - (U.S.A.)

as expected you did not address the claim -

there is a letter circulated by the VP claiming -

FIRST year (that's 12 months from date of hire) AGENT compensation of $100K

Mr. Seroka and Ms. Sisler personally made the claim in front of me and hundreds of others of $75-100K FIRST year AGENT compensation.

Neither Mr. Seroka nor Ms. Sisler made $75-100K in their first 12 months of employment as agents.

In fact that claim has now been reduced to $50-75K

Either prove that a reasonable number (10%) of agents make that or stop the claim and tell the truth.

If you made $75K in your first 12 months as an AGENT then allow us to contact UA and verify it.

Let's compare that to the HUNDREDS of people recruited by UA just in Central FL last year.

Bitter Water

AUTHOR: Ron Seroka - (U.S.A.)

I have worked for this company for 15 years. I have had an incredible career and done things in my life that I never thought I would be able to do.

We have a habit of promotion in this office. Ask the people who have been promoted and you will know what I mean.

This person was offered a promotion to a Unit Manager position. He refused it. He simply just wanted to bypass that and go straight to Branch manager.

When he didn't get what he wanted he threw a hissy fit.

Don, please explain to the people why you are at the top of the pyramid and have been for years.

How come we don't see any affordableone branch offices? You still have underlings and after three years I would have thought you would have let one of yours go to form their own affordableone agency.

When will you let them out to do their own thing?

Have you encouraged anyone to leave you and start their own agency?

I doubt it. I don't think you want to lose the money you are making off of them.

Maybe they figured out (or will figure out) that you were the pot and the kettle all in one. Maybe that is why so many have left you. They figured YOU out!

AUTHOR: Donald - (U.S.A.)

happy to respond

1. No, I do not sell UA nor does anyone in the agency where I work - don't , won't

Provide me with your contact information and I will give you my State of FL agent number where you can go and verify that I am not appointed to UA.

2. The agency has terminated people for being appointed with UA

3. The only reason you see any agency selling UA is because they pay the agency 60% commissions and advance commissions.

4. Why did I quit UA -

I can document all of the promises and commitments made to me by my Unit Manager and Branch Manager - NONE of which ever came true. They lied. They know it. I know it. They don't even deny it anymore.

I never made anywhere near the money that Branch Managers, Unit Managers, and John Gore promise people. I have never met anyone who has that will allow open audit verification.

IF I had made the money or IF they had honored their commitments I would still have had to leave. What the UA policy did to my clients made it impossible for me to face them. I now sell the best products on the market.

I was part of the captive Branch Division. That is separate from the Independent Agency area where agencies sell the product.

I can name names of those in the Independent area that have churned customers through UA to get advance money.

BACK IN BED WITH UA

AUTHOR: Marilyn - (U.S.A.)

My understanding Donald is that, even though you are complaining about UA, your agency, which you started after you did not get the promotion you expected from UA is now back in bed with UA and selling their product. What's up with that, could it be the big commissions in need in order to keep your agency a float
