It ended up being a group interview, lasting about an hr. The Branch mgr gave the shpeel, but didn't talk much about the supplemental health insurance, it was more about the money potential. I even asked him a question about the insurance, and he kinda blew me off, and was very vague at answering. He then called each one of us in, for a brief interview, for only a few minutes, and he was REal persistent, about getting me to Sign Up, which I didn't . I then got an email from him, later that night, I asked him a couple of questions, about the prospecting, I never heard back from him.
I almost went for it, Even my husband told me to go for it, get my insurance license, quit my job, and take from my 401k till I start making money. I dont' think it would have ever happened. Thank all of you, for giving me the reasurrance, that I didn't go for it, I went with my Gut Feeling, which started, when I saw that room full of people there for that interview....Something wasn't right about that, and now I know why......

I can't believe you made a decision based on the group interview. By the way major airlines do the same thing. It saves time and energy.
Im proud to say our branch manager in Houston has worked really hard for what he has created. He has (provided all the resources at his cost) and has tried really hard to help all, successful or not. He is a good man and all he asks in return is for you TO DO YOUR JOB.
Its disappointing to know that there are people like you out there that could possibly ruin it for those that have worked so hard.
United American not only provides an income but it allows you to enhance your personal growth and skills.
And I can say this, there is no amount of money that can ever replace what I have gained from AU
For those of you that are reading this article, you get as much as what you give, not anymore or any less.
Thank you

the company has nothing to do with your lack of success

If you can do it, you will make it. SALES IS SALES. ONLY THE STRONG SURVIVE. UA gives one a chance to make it. If you don't you don't. That's it. This company is Governed by State and Federal Oversight and would not be allowed to do anything shady or off color. They are reviewed every year by the ins. commission. If I owned a business and wanted it to be a success, I would need to find the right sales team. This is their way of doing that. I see a chance for me to supplement my income and have residuals to follow for ever. This will allow me to work less and enjoy the income. Most importantly, THIS IS HOW EVERY INSURANCE COMPANY WORKS. Those who have negative things to say may try to look at this again form the prospective of being able to run with the big dogs.
Thanks and Good luck to those who try. A job is about providing income so yes that needs to be everyone's concern in the career of sales other wise work at a hospital or nursing home to be able to help people. United way and red cross are great places for you to help people and even volunteer.

Rebuttal and defense of UA

The company has been posting ads on monster.com for practically every major city in the USA, every month, for several months. Company managers are contacting people that have posted resumes, even people that don't have a background in sales or insurance. The company will probably continue to do so. Why? They are one of the largest providers of Medicare supplemental insurance policies and the baby-boomer generation is starting to retire. But, it's not as if a new agent can run out and start selling Medigap policies. Medicare is complicated; the senior market is not the place to start. It takes time, hard work and experience, just like any other business.
The company has the benefit of knowing that any person they appoint has already passed the requirements of the state government entity that regulates insurance. And yes, they risk very little; they offer commission only, contract status positions. They don't pay for the necessary insurance class or the state insurance exam fee. Does that make them shady or deceptive?
As far as the employment advertisements and solicitations: They are attempting to recruit hundreds of new sales agents. The dropout rate for new sales people in any field, including insurance, is very high. It's no mystery that they continue to place ads and aggressively recruit. I don't think it's a reason to vilify them.
The employment ads promise sales leads. But, ask any experienced insurance agent how they got started in the business. Don't be surprised if they tell you that they were given a phone book. It's usually considered the responsibility of an agent to prospect and sell. Most companies don't provide leads at all. "Free leads" are something United American offers to its agents that other insurance companies do not offer; therefore, they advertise that fact. They have several lead sources. Good managers are usually looking for better lead sources, good agents don't sit around waiting for free leads and the company doesn't promise exclusive leads.
They are offering a chance for almost anyone to start a career in insurance, but it's up to the individual to succeed. I believe, because UA has been so aggressive in recruiting, they are starting to get bad-mouthed by people that were never going to succeed in the first place. I'm sure I'll be attacked and insulted for defending UA, despite the rules for posting here. What I would really like to read is a success story from any of the folks that attacked UA, after they left the company. But actually, most of the people that posted negative comments never worked for the company.
